B-1 and RESKIT

Reskit brought probably a fantastic resin kit to the market; the engine nacelles for the B-1 in 1/48 scale.

I was very excited until I saw the price: 220 euro. That is slightly too much :frowning:

Thats a sizeable amount of resin there which explains the price, but I note the set has the early nozzles so would need surgery to update with metallic details late nozzles for instance.

I don’t believe the B-1 is currently available in 1/48. I have been looking for one for a few months and Revell hasn’t re-released it as far as I know.

You are right but many of us have one in our “stock”. Mine has been there for years and with all the rumours that air intakes are wrong, exhausts are wrong… I was searching for a replacement.

@Whitewolf: you are quite right, they sell these newer exhausts seperately… at extra cost of course.

They are available on Ebay, and I have seen the odd one for sale at shows here in the UK. The kit has a lot of issues but Metallic details now do a ton off stuff for it including weapons bays, which include beautiful 3 D printed rotary launchers, plus undercarriage bays and undercarriage, plus intakes and exhausts. Others do varions sensor upgrades, Red Fox do latest and early cockpit sets in 3D print etc Barracuda also do resin accessories and now Reskit!! In addition there is a resin flaps and slats set for the wings, plus a new, correctly shaped resin nose.

Have a look at the metallic details sets, they do new intakes and exhausts as do Barracuda. I recommend the Barracuda intake set as it contains FOD guards which are brightly coloured with various badges/markings on them in various units which are included on some decal sheets. The metallic details exhausts are superb.
I see these Reskit sets are available with late or early exhausts and come with one open engine bay only, for 218 US Dollars and the same sets are available cheaper with the engine bay closed for 169 Dollars. To be honest, for the money, I would expect two open engine bays?
As it happens most modellers will probably be happier with the cheaper closed set. I’m surpried Reskit have not done a full cockpit set, as the kit one is rather bare and could do with upgrading

You really can’t see much in the front cockpit, and you have to open the maintenance doors to see in the back cockpit. While it would be nice, I don’t think there’s a ton of need for a front cockpit.

Thanks for all the reactions.

As regards the price, I can’t see how this could be justified despite the usual excellent quality of Reskit offerings. You can buy a mighty complete kit for 218 euro.

I will look at Barracuda and Metallic Details, also for the landing gear. I expect that plastic may be a bit to weak for supporting such large model.

You can buy 3D printed ejection hatches for the rear operator section that can be left open to see inside so in addition to the excellent Red Fox instrument sets, some additional structure in 3D resin would be welcome.
