Going to attempt a Ralph McQuarrie inspired scheme on this little resistance X-wing, as a gift for a proper Star Wars fan who I think will appreciate it. The resistance X-wing from the sequels seems to be a better canvas for this than the OT one. Will probably be OOB build wise.
Here’s where it is so far. Partially built up and ready for primer. Going Black Mr Surfacer 1500, then insignia white for the base colour.
Side stripes done. Tamiya xf-53 neutral grey. Mr color 45 sail color for the sandy bit. AK RC295 extra dark sea grey for the darker bits and also the little rectangles here and there.
This is what I spent Sunday doing! The wing markings are pretty much a copy of a build on therpf. Proper 70’s design and looks just right on this I think.
And the orange is Tamiya x-7, with same amount of Tamiya flat added to take back the gloss, then some mr Color radome added for highlights which don’t really show up in the pics.
Have added a load of little markings, probably a few too many but was enjoying myself! Made up little masking tape shapes and sprayed on. The red is Tamiya LP18 dull red. Also toned down the orange with highly diluted base colour mixed with some semi gloss varnish. Don’t know if went too far with this also, but it’s done now.
Thanks John, just took delivery of another one of these kits, as need to do one for myself now!
Almost forgot the droid. Painted to tone with the theme and a small nod to its pilots helmet colour too. Some other details painted grey and a couple of other stencilled marks.
No more painting, just need to decide how to go about the weathering as these Bandai kits can be temperamental with enamels.
That’s exactly what I should have done Ryan @Tank_1812 , but I risked some AK dark grey wash and very lightly weathered the finish. A couple of cracks appeared where parts are under pressure. I think it’s the push fit that’s the major issue but as long as don’t flood the joints it’s fine.
Calling it done for now. Could carry on with the weathering but I’m pretty happy with how it looks now so onto the next project.
