Masochist.
I think I should , plus some sort of counselling, I didn’t want to commit to building Trumpeters undoubtedly massively superior offering , the tracks give me nightmares .
The Skif is possibly the worst kit I have worked on for 20+ years, the A.A. gun is a complete joke.
I have a 6 wheel Russian/ Ukrainian APC which is actually quite a nice kit.I think they are slightly under scale though.
The MTLB ticks all the boxes for hideous, strange that for some reason I’ve always wanted one.
Desire killed now😀
I’m, not quite sure with what yet. I REALLY want to do a Chieftain with an M48/60 powerpack, like what the IDF ended up doing with the Centurion, but I’m quite sure it’s only a product of my imagination. I may see if the pics I have of the two Mk4’s built for Israeli testing are good enough to try and do that instead.
@rfbaer That’s exactly my plan using a Tamiya Chieftain and Esci M60 but going the extra step and fitting it out with blazer ERA blocks. I’ve had the Esci M60 in the stash for years until I think my skills are up to it just for this project.
Although the ball tank has the edge for getting on the bench.
Well, since it is a true “what-if”, I went ahead and started it using a left-over Tamiya Chieftain lower hull. Goofy, I bought the kit just for the turret to complete another build and just couldn’t put it down, especially once I figured out how I wanted it to go. I’ll put pics up on the CC board soon. In the meantime, I need to keep looking for the pics of the two Mk4’s that were built for Israel. I have a Takom Chieftain Mk5 all of a sudden…
There are 2 photos in the 'Haynes Chieftain owners manual.Available from the Tank Museum Dorset.Excellent book.
Dave, not to rain on your parade or anything, but I note that the same images are available on the www (courtesy of War Thunder - who I’m sure won’t mind too much):
Hopefully these’ll help Russell a bit; in fairness to War Thunder here’s the link to their page covering Israeli Chieftains and a few other images:
I agree that the Haynes book is extremely useful and an excellent resource to Chieftain modellers.
Have you seen the Steve Zaloga article ( Military Modelling, I think) where he scratch builds this ?I can dig it out if you like.
Thank you but it is not necessary.
I am not good enough to worry about that sort of thing.
I’d be very interested. I have the Haynes book, and those two pics are what piqued my interest, aside from my interest in IDF armor.
Me neither, also I don’t have time or patience to scratch build microscopic parts out of photo etch.
Iwas refering to the Zaloga article on the ’ Super Pershing’ pilot (2?)
I Probably haven’t quite got the hang of replying to topics yet.
I remember that. I thought it a little strange as I’ve been keeping an eye on unusual conversion articles in most English-language mags for a while.
My entry arrived yesterday, now just to get the figures.
My own take on an IDF Chieftain will wait maybe for BTtNW part 5 or 6
You have another four weeks to do so! That reminds me - I have to finish mine…
He used the Accurate Armour conversion set, and made a minor mistake in leaving the commander’s cupola with the hatch at 4 o’clock (as per the T26E3) instead of at 6.
Going by photos of the built kit, HobbyBoss made this same mistake.
It just got so much more difficult to pick a project…
Neubaufahrzeug vs VK 45.02(P)H vs M10 Booker
Yeah, shocking news on the Booker! Of course you could always build both…
