Oh, but Brian, with a bag of Evergreen ANYTHING is possible!
(Actually you’re part-right: the DML kit doesn’t even build one of the German versions straight out of the box. I did it some years ago, and while it is mostly modelled on the Munster example it still needs some work to make it accurate. And for the US version you’d need a ton of scratch-building or the dreaded Commander kit, but I wouldn’t wish that on anyone…)
Pete you’ve got it about right. (Although in the interests of encouraging more participants I’m taking a flexible view on wooden mock-ups and variations to existing tanks.) Paper-only designs are out, as are prototypes that then went into production essentially unchanged.
I’ve got to say Tom that I think the Commander one isn’t too bad at all; it was around the 3rd resin kit I ever tackled (I think) and whilst it was a learning experience I like to think I did it proud-ish.
Price is a bit steep perhaps - though not excessively so for resin - and let’s face it, it’s the only game in town at the moment.
Apologies for the same old, same old again, but I really must step up to Commander’s defence(!)
Well, if you like Tom; I have posted some before within the Cold War section entitled something like “Test to post a picture - MBT 70” or such, some time ago. I also showed some comparison shots between Dragon’s kit and Commander’s. Anyway, the few below might be different ones (I really should check):
As we’re less than a week from the start, I’ve made a stab at a potential award badge. Let me know what you think, and alternative suggestions are welcome! (Designing in Paint, to fit the 128x128px size, is a real challenge…)
Try ‘Paint 3D’ Tom. It is standard with Windows now. If you set the ‘Canvas’ option, it will preserve the transparency of the original templates available here.
It may have been mentioned here already and my apologies if it has, but doesn’t Hobby Boss make a model of the Brazilian Osorio tank ? I think they built two prototypes.
Trumpeter Osorio.
One of their early kits, the hinges for the engine hatches have HUGE hinges
so that the hatches can be operated. With some tender love and care and
lots of work it could turn out nice. The plastic is ok, I managed to glue it with
solvent “glue”
Revosys did make that one kit and go under. The molds were purchased by Rye Field Model and it is available from them now. I built it, it is an excellent kit.
