Best tank that never was

Progressing slowly but surely :slightly_smiling_face:

One half of the tracks done and most of the tank build. Leaving the hatches of until I decide if I should add a crew.

Hi Jesper, that’s a real beast you’re building! How were the tracks? They look fiddly if you had to pin each link…

They are fiddly, But luckily do not have to be pinned. There are some parts that click in place and a big connecter link in the middle.

The time consuming part is mostly cutting out the parts….

Still a beautiful piece of track when done.

Right, it’s been too quiet here for too long! I finally found time to do some work on my DIVAD runner-up, cutting a turret frame from 0.060" sheet and adding slabs around the sides as a shell. Then I built the gun based around a rod pivot, and surprisingly it came out OK. (Fortunately the drawings show a hatch on the right side just where I needed access to insert the pivot…)

Still need to think about the radar units, but it’s getting there!

Loving that Tom.

Beautiful scratch building!

Another update - I finished the turret! The cupola comes from an M113 kit since it seems reasonable to assume they’d use something already in production and the sketches are vague. The radars are the big issue - I built them as best I could from scraps and a section of the water tank in an Italeri truck. They are “good enough” and I couldn’t find anything better to base them on!

Now it just needs some paint…

Loving this Tom. Great work.

Thanks! Here’s the complete “build” ready for priming:

Trips and illnesses after them somewhat stopped my activities. I present a brilliant (lacquer) result of my work. It would be better if it would be a brilliant work, but okay.

Modulation may not be a masterpiece, but I like it. And I think the tracks look a bit like the real photo.

That’s looking pretty good to me! Those heavy prototypes were massive beasts, even at 1:35 scale.

Base coat is on - progress a bit slow, but soon real painting can begin.

Some more progress on my Maus. I used the vallejo modulation system. First time I used this system. Pretty satisfied with the first try.
