After what felt like an eternity im finally finished with all the pre paintwork on this Cat.
I’ve barely had time to work for more than 1 day at a time on this because of work related travel.
The kit is stock, only with homemade improvements.
Foil behind the sensor glasses where there are optical sensors.
Antennas made of spring-wire steel and very thin elastic fishing wire for the tie-downs.
The kit went together very well, only minor mistakes by me, fingerprints here and there…
Also fumbled on the rear right turret basket during construction, noting a mimetic net cant fix after painting.
Have no idea what kind of dioarma ill try. maybe some grassy field on a training mission.
Are the orange lights mounted during exercises?
Also does anyone have a good overview of the camo pattern on this? I’ve read it differs to previous models.
‘Tankcraft’ Leopard 2 ’ NATO’s First Line of Defence 1979-2020’ is a pretty good book on the Leopard2, lots of camo schemes.
I got my copy via Ebay for around £14 here in UK.
Also as someone else posted, the Tankograd publications are excellent on Leo’s.
Wow that finish looks excellent Julius! I love the camo pattern and the weathering.
The tracks look a tiny bit loose. Are they one piece rubber band type?
Not trying to take away from the excellent build and paint job, just curious.
The Border model actually comes with plastic single link tracks, which these are, they just got a bit loose during weathering as they arent completely connected at the top side
Good eyes!
Base looks very nice and the Leo turned out great. It is all very brown though …
Just to break it up, try something nice and easy and it wont take anything away from the build or the dio. The Leo also sits really nice on the ridge with that workable track and suspension.
Just add some basic green floc in a few lengths to add a bit of vegetation and maybe tufts in a few areas. The picture is just a rough idea thats all, and apply the floc on the other side of the ridge as well. Can be sparse with mud/dirt showing through or add a few small real rocks to it. And the green strip under the wagon gives the idea of it being on a used rural track/lane. Just what I’d do anyway. Looks great though and well done.
