I have been trying to get a clear answer on this but did the btr-60 PA see combat with the Egyptian army during the Yom Kippur war?
Hi!
I was planning to answer this but completely forgot, but from what I know Syria 100% used BTR-60s in the YKW.
Here’s some photos of abandoned ones, I hope it helps!
@LiterallyHorrigon thak you, these are great photos
Are you aware of any PA variants or open topped variants being used?
No problem at all!
I was looking at it recently and I don’t think that both the Egyptians and Syrians used any open top or PA versions of the BTR, they seemed to only use the more common variant with the 14.5mm MG turret. There isn’t any concrete information outright saying that they didn’t use the PA or the open topped BTR-60 variants; but if they bought the BTR-60 in 1966 or 1967 (1967 being the earliest date of Egyptian/Syrian use of the BTR-60), they would’ve all most likely have been the BTR-60 with the turret.
Here’s some more references for the BTR-60s in the YKW though, hope it helps!
@LiterallyHorrigon thank you that is an excellent reference. Unfortunately AI on google doesn’t give the best answers and claims they did but with no evidence.
Yeah I checked Google AI too, sucks that there isn’t any clear as day information on this. But if you’re wondering on what to do with a BTR-60PA kit that you have, you could paint it in a parade scheme or in a winter environment, or any other cool looking schemes you find. I think the parade scheme looked quite nice:
Best of luck!
@LiterallyHorrigon i was thinking of maybe doing them in amphibious training if I couldn’t find a clear cut answer
