Building a vintage Pak40

My local shop often buys estate lots of vintage kits, and I found this old Tamiya Pak40 for a couple dollars. Couldn’t help myself. :kissing_closed_eyes::+1:

Time to build. This should be fun.

Wow. I remember building that kit in Junior High (Middle School).

I think I was done in an hour at most. Beat that!

Cheers,
Colin

P.S. There’s a true pleasure in a straight from the box classic. Enjoy.
P.P.S. I’m jealous.

Sweet deal & fun build! Look forward to seeing your Pak40 go together! Will you be doing the gun crew too?

Many good memories building one and awards long ago.

Yes. The crew will be built as well. I got to practice building and painting figures.

It is still a great build. Yes there will be those who dislike the kit because it’s 50 years old. BUT… have fun, and YES the figures do stink, but with a little TLC who knows right

Some years ago while visiting my mom I picked this and the halftrack kits from a local Hobby Lobby to build in the evenings - it brought back a lot of nostalgia!

Heh, nice. There seems to be sa lot of this going about of late — over on the TWENOT forums we’re having a pre-1985 Tamiya group build, that this would fit in with nicely  (Ron’s recent SPz Marder comes from there too.)

Nor should you even try. I’ve started on some of my old kits from the 70s and they are a lot of fun.

Well; that was quick.

I’ll finish painting the gun very soon; th en the little details will go on next. Oh! And the figures too.

Base coat applied.

Once it cures, the wheels will go up, then detail painting will occur.

Looking really good.

Lovely job! Crisp and clean! A solid reminder of how even the older Tamiya kits can still kick goals!

I will have to hit the shop again to see what they still have. I love vintage kits and Tamiya kits still make for nice builds, even if the kit is old in comparison to other offerings.

In all, it looks the part. Like this illustration from Ron Volstad, featuring a Fallschirmjäger Gun Crew during fighting in Italy; which gives me an idea…

Great job Reynier. My son got me one for Christmas last year, can’t wait to build it. These old kits definitely bring back great memories.

I’ll be picking up the No. 2 set from Miniart, because it has the aluminum containers.

AFV Club also makes a set as well…
