Building GDR NVA

That reminds me (and with those fatal words Kitmaker members will look for a bridge to throw themselves off I’m sure).

When I was in Iraq in 2003, within the Brit Division’s Order of Battle were some Czech and Polish units. I noticed one day that 2 officers from the respective nations were conversing earnestly. “Aha” I thought, “Presumably the Czech and the Polish languages are related”. Being a breezy sort of guy - and I knew both quite well - I interrupted and asked if that was, indeed, the case. “No” they assured me, “Definitely not” “We are speaking Russian”.

Of course; the Warsaw Pact had only been dissolved a mere 12 years previously, when they would have been junior officers. One of my all too frequent “Duh” moments.

In my experience those words are more like, “No s#it, there I was…”
But seriously, no s#it, there I was - Phase I of the Q Course. We were divided into two platoons. We had an Egyptian officer and an Israeli offocer going throught the course. They were kept in separate platoons, and great lengths were gone through to insure they didn’t end up in the same place at the same time, Bear in mind this was a mere nine years after the the YKW. Or the October War if you were on the other side of it.
Camp Mackall was far different then than it is now. A TAC shack, two classrooms, a single latrine building, and several tar paper shacks were the only buildings there. There was a tin shade structure under which we ate unheated C Rations. We lived in the tar paper shacks. I woke up some time in the three hour time span I actually got to sleep only to discover both of them standing by the perimeter fence chatting as if they has been long time friends…

ICM Zil-131 comes with a complete workshop interior. Not bad, but I try to build a NVA Panzer Wartungs-und Instandsetzungs Einrichtung. PWIE.

Hi Ken,
I just ordered some tools set to make the interior more life-like. I keep this posted.
BTW the kit builds like a dream, just needs some resin tires.

Is that the mortar from Live Resin?
If so, I have the same one, but it will be towed by a motorcycle with a sidecar.

No Rob,
it´s the 12 cm Granatwerfer 43 from Dragon. Interestingly Wehrmacht copied the Soviet mortar and maybe NVA used captured Wehrmacht mortars from USSR:
Live Resin has the 2B11 mortar, which was also used by NVA.
