Yes, the film is really good. I have already built the OKA model and it is a great kit
Nice work. That’s a great kit, although the attachment from the first to second stage is a pain…
Yes, the pinholes are too tiny.
Here’s a PAVN version I built for a former B52 driver on his 80th birthday.
Edited to add more tractor pictures. Didn’t add the windshields and wipers until the end.
I plan on getting the truck/trailer and building a reload diorama.
Al, how is the quality of the ZIL-131V truck and semitrailer?
The tractor and TEL are decent, it’s an older kit from Trumpeter, but it holds up well. The spring coverings for some of the high pressure lines are finicky, but I’m confident you can handle them better than I did.
The missile decals are voluminous. Have lots of Microsol on hand.
I also built one with a MAZ (?) tractor. It wasn’t bad either.
I already have these and intend to build the same dio
The only thing one must scratchbuild are the 2 ramps, on which trailer rear wheels must stand for the rocket to be transfered to the launcher:
Although pictured is the ZIL-131V based trailer(Volkhov), the ZIL-157V trailer(Dvina) uses same ramps.
Picture for discussion purposes only!
Cheers,
Angel
Thanks you both. I see when I have truck kit.
Since was a company commander, I doubt he ever drove a P601. He had several UAZ for his disposal.
You might ask your co-worker, if he found the UAZ-469 superior to the Granztrabant.
My team leader, another SF guy and I took an unauthorized trip in a UAZ 469 once. We drove east through several checkpoints toward Jalalabad, manned by some pretty rough looking dudes whose allegiance we had no clue about. We were gone several hours, had no BFT, had filed no CONOP.
When we finally returned we went to Camp Warehouse to pick up some beer and the UAZ broke down in the middle of the camp. We were lucky, but that’s not the point of the story.
A German soldier walked by (formerly of the NVA) and laughed, saying, “After the reunification those are the first pieces of $#!+ we got rid of.”
I’ve ridden in Trabi’s. As bad as the UAZ was, it was far better than the Trabi.
I recall there were no DDR decals in the kit. I assume you can source them from somewhere else. But the stenciling - would it have remained in Russian or did NVA equipment receive German stenciling?
Hi Rob,
NVA used Russian stencils until the end, Russian the second language with NVA, as English was the second language in West Germany. And the Trumpeter kit includes GDR roundels.
Hi James, FYI the car was named Kübelwagen Trabant P601A, with “A” reading Armee/Army- The unofficial designation was Stoffhund or plushdog.
