Burma Jungle Ravine

Thanks Frank, again that’s fine praise, I checked out some of your castle-work, truly amazing craftsmanship, so looking forward to following your builds in future, :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hi all,

Not a lot to report as I’ve been on hols, but I wasn’t totally happy with the walls of the ‘cutting’, nor the flat higher levels, :slightly_frowning_face:, so since I’ve been back I’ve been reworking said areas, :slightly_smiling_face:

Before:

After:

Now need to start adding redoing the colour and shade variations,.

Some additional images:

To be fair, most of the higher ground work will be hidden by lush tropical planting, least that is the intention,.

Cheers, :beer_mug:,

Great job on the ravine. What are you going to use for the greenery at 1/72?

Thanks for the kind words Jeremy, :slightly_smiling_face:. The foliage is going to be a bit of a challenge, the jungle floor shouldn’t be too much of a challenge, leaf debris and rotting trunks, moss and ferns, etc, but for the understory and canopy layer I’m going to have to construct bushes, ferns and trees, so will be a bit of a learning curve, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Any, and all suggestions welcome…thinking paper might be used for palms and banana type plants,.

Hi mate. Try one of those cheap plastic aquarium plant packs. They have lots of different sizes of things and stuff that would easily slip into this scale.

Hi all,

Have added some basic tones thus far, and now starting to add some yellow and white lichen to the rocks.

After this I’ll start to pick out small stones in various colours, then add moss and ferns, more so lower down where the rocks will be damper.

Cheers, :beer_mug:,

If I recall aright, a while back Games Workshop repackaged some of those as jungle terrain and flogged them off at their usual exorbitant prices…
:face_vomiting:
Other wargames companies offer similar basing/terrain packs but as John says, your first resort is your local pet supplies establishment.

Hi all,

Decided to have a play with adding some moss in and around the lichen covered rocks,.

Can I ask what you used to create that great looking moss and lichen on those rocks?

Trade secret Bert, he’ll have to kill you if he tells you

You’re on a nice roll again… I always love the shrubbery you manage to create, time and time again…

Hi Bert, the moss is an AK product, personally I think it’s too coarse for 1/72nd, so I’ve replaced it with a home grown product I made up…I’ll post some new images. I’m sure it’ll be great for the larger scales, I also altered the colour, the basic stuff is, imho, too dark.

The lichen is suitably coloured cheap acrylic paint roughly speckled on with a tooth pick to give a slight texture.

Hi all,

As just mentioned I wasn’t entirely happy with the look of the moss, it’s too coarse and not the right colour for me, so I decided to try something different….

Original moss…

Replacement moss…

Please feel free to share your view as to which you prefer,.

Cheers, :beer_mug:,
