Bushnell's Turtle. Revolutionary war submersible. 1:35 3D print

I’m with Mark, I also suggested a half-clear side earlier. I think the best way to display this would be in a vertical slab of “water” which could be viewed from either side. Would it be possible to print an optional side in clear resin? :tumbler_glass:

I don’t think printing a side clear would work well. There would be a considerable amount of work buy the builder needed to polish to make it properly transparent. Also, the compound curve would create a lot of distortion.
Maybe a cut-away?

I would think one could take the part and make a mold for tradition clear resin casting. That might look better then trying to print clear. Possibly distortion issues through the curve aside.

Hmmm OK distortion etc. would be a problem. Ryan’s idea might be more transparent…or maybe it could be suspended in a tall narrow clear glass box with one side of the casing left off, filled either with just air or even murky water (with the open side right up against one wall for visibility)…although trapped bubbles & silvering a likely issue. I’ll keep thinking, it just seems a crime to enclose all that great work

My thought was to not add the interior to the closed up model but display it next to it because without a cutaway or another solution, you will lose that great detail.

Nah.

Side…

…and top…

…can be left removable.

Craig,

That is brilliant work, and the removable side/top is an elegantly effective solution to keep all that detail visible. And as has been said before, this is one SERIOUSLY AWESOME project! :exploding_head:

Thanks!

I’ve made a Facepage account.

Redirecting...

Should prolly do an Instagram thingy too.

Pricing looks like being approximately $80 usd + $10 post worldwide. (free post in Australia) for the 1:32. Not sure on the 1:16 yet.

Not sure of appropriate forum etiquette for selling things. or indeed how I will sell them. or where.

arrrgh.

I don’t think it’s an issue listing it here. Not as if your posting every day with new products to sell and not supporting the site. Maybe something to discuss with Jim about if one reaches that kind of level. Otherwise I think this is fine.

There is a buy/sell forum you could post a thread in.

First Full Kit all laid out!

Well, almost. There’s one more print to go with the snorkels, top port hole, propellers and auger. oh. and some clear acrylic porthole windows.

Just have to get these instructions done and figure out a box.

How about round or an oblong shaped box? Possibly with porthole artwork featuring the sub underwater.:gear: :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh. wow. that’d be awesome. Bit outside of the budget for now. (stashes idea away for later…)

Hmmm… Walnutty…

I’m looking to have between ten and twenty kits ready to go in the first week or two of January. A website with a shopping cart and stuff is being worked on.

Nice to have a review but I think Harry would have benefited from viewing this thread before hand.

Boxes, Stickers, Stencils! Oh My!
Getting there. Would be getting there faster, except my printer has thrown it’s toys out of the pram and needs a replacement screen.
The screen is a consumable, and is expected to fail eventually, and I had been meaning to order a spare for just in cases. Only now it’s not just in case.
Anyhoo, it’s on the way. If Amazon can get it here by Friday, we are looking at an early next week release.
I should have approximately 18 kits available then.
