Cadillac Gage Commando version

Anyone have any information on this beast?

One off, photoshopped ad etc. I have seen words about a recoilless rifle version but those seem more single barrel vs quad.

I would guess photoshop. How would you even reload those tubes way up in the air with no platform to stand on?

Photoshop would be my assessment as well.

I was talking to club member that sent me the photo. He mentioned the V-100 has a hatch in the rear. You could rotate the turret to reload.

That’s an interesting photo. What are the rifles they’re carrying? I first thought Cetme, but I don’t think that’s right.

Unknown to me.

My understanding he was looking at USAF MP’s in Vietnam when he came across this vehicle.

Supposedly the image is an advertising image of the Gage Commando …

Cadillac Gage did advertise a recoilless rifle as an armament option in their sales pitches. I always thought it would just be one on a suitable mount such as used on the M113.

I agree with the others that this is probably either a photoshop job or artists impression. The shadow on the turret side does not match the shape and direction of the shadow of the vehicle.

a recoil less rifle mounted on an air defense vehicle is probably somebody’s pipe dream for starters. Air bases always had infantry posted out on the wire, and an Air Force dude letting go with a couple can rounds behind them wouldn’t have gone over too good. A typical air base was ringed with arty a few klicks out in as many directions as possible. They’re setup to completely cover the base and areas as much as three to four klicks out bound

Two examples to the above paragraph.

  • DaNang was an Airforce base that was also used by Marine air wings. Virtually all close security was taken on by Marine infantry in layers. The layers would have stretched way out past the range of 122 rockets. Dong Ha was also similar in the way the security was setup with rings of security that went 20 miles out
  • Chu Lai was similar to DaNang, but was primarily a Marine air base (a big one at that). The Marines did all their security up to and just outside the wire (perhaps a 150 meters). The 198th Infantry ran all the security from the Anton Bridge south, and north was a combo of basic Marine infantry and Army units (mostly CAV units). The folks inside the wire rarely (if ever) did combat outside the wire. That project was taken on by the 198th and at one time the 9th Marines. North was kind of a hodge podge of Marines, 196th, and CAV units, All the bases had the rocket ring down to a science, and knew where to look. These airbases usually drew from post personnel for basic guard duty, and that’s why they didn’t seriously engage with the other guys. That was for the infantry

The Commando Car was quite popular with MP’s running road security down south, but I never saw one in I-Corp. DaNang was big enough to have two or three, but as I said I never saw one in there. What you did see was M113’s and folks on foot.
