I can’t quire remember one in Normandy, though I’ve been several times; I am familiar with this one though, near Thetford:
I may be wrong about the location , but I’m sure I’ve seen a photo of one (centaur) somewhere in Northern France.
I’m pretty sure its tanks only.
Is that the gate guard at Muckleburgh?
No, the 7th Armoured Div memorial on the A1065; the Div was stationed in the vicinity and trained there prior to D Day.
Ah - the one north of Ickburgh. I’m up that way in a few weeks so will need to swing by with the camera!
In my opinion Tom, it’s worth it; close by are a few huts and routes through the forest showing where some of the units were. You have to squint a bit and imagine tents, a few wooden huts for the messes, NAAFI etc, the ablutions, the doubtless barbed wire, the sentries, the tarped tanks, rows of trucks, the clatter of studded footwear, muffled cursing, but you might get there - or is that just me?
I understand that is a Centaur - or it’s certainly marked up liek one used in the Beach Assault Groups.
However, same main armament though.
I know it is a Centaur… I erroneously replied to your post, instead of the one of @VultureDave
Roger that!
Yes that’s true, had the flag made up just before the first action, only colours the shop had, the rhyme came later.
