I’m fairly pleased with myself clearing out glues from my workspace. I got some starbond black CA glue last year and it has replaced all other CA glues and some fillers. Very pleased. Great for resin and PE attachments. Binned all my other CA glues.
I went to open my micro crystal clear for some clear parts and found it had glued itself shut, so binned that.
I have some trusty 5 min epoxy for some situations.
I used VMS Transpa fix tonight instead. I’m not entirely convinced about this. What are our forums collective recommendations for attaching clear parts?
Clear acrylic gel. Dries crystal clear. Available at artists supply stores. It usually comes in no smaller than 500 ml. jars, so it lasts a very long time.
I would first dip your canopy in future or whatever substitute you like. Then if you need to use a CA, it will prevent fogging. Another option is Liquidtex gloss gel medium. Can be used for pe parts also.
Not canopies but vehicle windows - I’ve been using Gator’s Grip (thin) glue with good results. Be sure to clean up any overspill while it is still wet!
I am a fan of Ultraglue (as far as I know, similar to Gator’s grip mentioned above).
Useful for transparent parts, photoetch, resin, etc. It is waterbased so you can easily clean any excess before it dries, gives you time to position the part, and does not fog. Not as strong as CA but good enough for me.
I too use ultra glue and starbond black CA depending on how the part attaches. If you dip in future you can use the CA, or I have even used tamiya extra thin quick set in very small amounts which works well too
The Liquidtex gloss gel medium is very similar in appearance etc but at a greater volume. I have heard say Gator is basically a repackaging for hobbyists or words to that extent.
I have used gloss medium thickness clear Gesso to form light lenses. Also use as filler at canopy gaps as it can be filed, sanded, and polished when cured. This is Liquitex Acrylic Medium - Clear Gesso
They are definitely very similar, I have both. I find the ultra glue a little bit better in terms of working time, but it’s marginal. I like to thin both with a bit of water at any rate
Any of the above mentioned clear acrylic gel/mediums (no matter the brand) will work, and are water-soluble. It is pretty much the same as Micro Scale Crystal-Clear adhesive/window pane material, but comes in much larger quantities.
