I have the AFV Club Cent kit with dozer blade. I build the kit as Swiss tank, so I have the dozer left. Were there any use of the dozer blade outside the British Army?
1st Aarmored Regeeiment, Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC)
Stridsvagn 81, 101, and 102
Outside of the IDF, which never used them, I’d say a few other countries more than likely used them. India seems like a good choice.
Only supposition but I think that perhaps the Dutch and the Danish used them.
I tried to find some information and according to one dude who was in our armoured forces
we tested three Centurions with dozer blade.
I haven’t been able to confirm the existence of any others or that they even went into active service.
Found one pic.
Swedish Centurion with “chain mail” armor
Perhaps I build a “What if” Cent with ERA and dozer blade.
The dutch used a modified Sherman Blade… So I would say not dutch…
One is in the garden of the HGM in Vienna
The picture of that Swedish tank with a dozer has a caption about experiments for various purposes including dozer blade.
Danish bought 5 sets of the dozer blade…later 1 to 5 more, thats a little unclear.
Found in the Kim Hartvig Sorensen book about Centurion in Danish Service.
I am not sure, you need a Meteor Mk4BH engine for using it…
I was about to mention that
For anyone wanting to build one, they were 20-pounder Mk. 5s with the usual Dutch upgrades, and once the ammo stocks for that gun ran out, the guns were removed, the turrets fixed at 6 o’clock and a couple of spotlights and smoke launchers installed on what was now the front.
hi all
so the dozer blade was designed for the Centurion AVRE 165mm this will be explained in my up coming book on the history of the AVRE .
rthe basic design was approved by war office july 1955
vehicles that have had the dozer blade
UK. AVRE165MM, AVRE MK12H 105mm. MK5 Dozer ,mk5/1,5/2 and finally MK5/3( only the dozer was a 5/3)
Denmark used them one being called Rambo
Australia used them about 4 if i remember correctly.
sweden did trial them but did not order them
There you have it, folks. The definitive source for all things Centurion.
not sure, but I think this is one of those 4 Australian Centurion Mk5 with the blade. Without the side skirts.
School of Armour in Puckapunyal, Victoria
yes if a dozer blade is fitted. a 4BH engine is fitted and the hydraulic pump
runs off the top of the crank for magnetos, i know changed a few in AVREs.
there is a oil tank against the right hand rear fire wall turret side and filter in the middle . you nee dto remove the access plate to get to it.
we use to shorten the gear stick so on AVREs So that when you changed gear or stick changed you did not take the skin off your knuckles has it hits the dozer control right above the gear stick.
I watched Hewes playing around video with an AVRE… Thanks for the confirmation.
As I am a little Centurion addicted, I need to buy the book about the AVREs, which publisher will sell it?
Thanks Rabbit
