And for the record I have a close affection for the maple leaf brigade and star spangles banner wavers after working closely with both for years …
Take an Australian from all over Australia, from '000’s of miles apart - Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart - and we all sound the same.
Take someone from the USA '000’s of miles apart - Texas, Alabama, Boston and the Bronx and put them together, and none sound the same.
But take an Englishman and 4 others from the compass points just 50 miles apart and they all sound different - and often can’t understand each other!
Take off eh
Okay all, time to consult your unlimited collective knowledge:
I’m considering painting my FV4005 in a two tone Canadian camouflage similar to that of the Centurion in the below photo
It seems to me that the black would be well-represented by NATO black, but what about this green base coat?
What’s the best Tamiya equivalent, in your opinion? Either a straight colour or a mixing ratio, I know nothing about these tanks so I’m sort of in the dark here.
Any ideas? Thanks!
I’m guessing nato green would be a good bet? Tamiya doesn’t have a nato green per say but the nato green I have from Real colors if quite dark
I can try and compare it to one of my Tamiya greens in a second
Neither because it’s not two tone. That first tank is in the pre NATO 3 tone (probably a Mk. 11). That Gate Guard is who knows what colour, but highly unlikely to be original.
Working from back to front along the skirt it’s black, OD, black, green, black, green.
The 50s/early 60s:
Anthony Seward has them as UK Deep Bronze green. Barry Beldam couldn’t find a reference/RAL/FS for the colour but didn’t call it Bronze Green.
Given how unlikely it is that monster would have survived much past the 50s, I’d say you’re going overall Bronze Green.
Okay, so find the colour that best matches bronze green as the base coat, then for the three tone camo use black and olive drab?
For Deep Bronze Green BS.24 , the green used from 1948 try this
Tamiya: 8 x XF5 + 5 X XF63 add satin varnish or spray it over the vehicle afterwards, as the British post war green was a gloss paint - (gloss is too much on a scale model, hence Satin)
Article on Post war British Green:
The Vallejo there is too light. It is more toward the colour used in the 1970’s with black, which Tamiya’s Field Grey is a close match.
No. Two different colours.
Bronze Green is Bronze Green. Not sure who does the best gloss one though.
The “Canadian” 3 tone that I use is, NATO black, Tamiya XF-62 brightened with XF-4 and the other green is a pretty close match to XF-65 which you can weather up as you please.
Ohhhh, okay that makes more sense. Pardon my ignorance! I’m fairly sure Armoured Acorn had some Centurion profiles with the three tone so I’ll use those as a guide.
Yeah they do. I’ll send them to you.
Thanks for this Peter. I’ll have need of this soon. I’m shocked AK hasn’t added this to their Real Colours line.
Cause some of us were in the paint booth you wanker.
Ahhhh there he is lol… You getting an all over spray tan
Tamiya Panzer Grey and Dark Iron for the Bulgarian campaign. I tan naturally so no bottle for me and shut up there is more paint on the model then me……mostly.
Believe it or not, German Field Gray - XF-65. I painted this resin Accurate-Armour many years ago, and I still find it’s a great match.
Hey guys sorry for being absent so much… Been taking care of my parents they are both elderly and recently left the hospital.

All of this has kept me busy …
Ill try to get in here more often
