Changes to the Ford Class CVN's

On seaforces.org there are several pictures posted of the JFK CVN-79 coming home after builders’ sea trials

it is easy to see the changes that have been made due to the decision to change the radar suite to the AN/SPY-6(V)3, the AN/SPY-3 and the AN/SPQ-9B.

On the aft area you can see the added platforms with the Mk95 illuminators for the Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles, on both sides, with the Mk95’s installed. There is another one Port Amidships near where the flight deck widens, and one on the Starboard Island just above the bridge.

The changes on the island, especially the radar panels on the front and rear, are easy to see.

So the next Ford Class CVN should be easy to create. Although not definitive, the USS Enterprise CVN-80, should also have the same exterior fittings. The only change may be more Rolling Airframe Missiles vs CIWS installations
