Churchill mark1 resurrection

sometimes they come back…

Hello, everyone.

I like to wander around yard sales, partly because I find new junk to take home.

It sometimes happens that you pass by and a light bulb goes on and you get the urge to build something you may have had in your drawer for years.

In my case, I saw a rare model of Churchill IV from the “Storia dei mezzi corazzati” still bagged. The model is clearly far from today’s standards and one would really struggle to make it usable…however…

“But I (think) I should have a Churchill somewhere, indeed it had been made into a Churchill mk1 from a Tamiya or I had made it into a Churchill ARK…bhooo”

Then the project had been abandoned because I lacked the right tracks…so, now they exist! Uhmmm I need to review my priorities…

I go looking in the scrap yard and buried under the mud I find a wreck:

it had been used to do some coloring with my children…when they were still children, however, the situation of the model is quite tragic

the hatches are missing

the tool boxes are missing

one drive wheel is stuck crooked

the exhaust cover is missing

one side hatch is missing

the front is missing

the rear armor is made from a sheet of plastic that is too thin

the rear sides are missing

the tower needs a sea of details

with mk1 doesn’t catch on much…

Range wreck

Being a sentimental ole fool I’d been tempted to save this one for the memories of a fun day with the kids . . . on the other hand ya have to let stuff go and just enjoy the memory. Anxious to see how your Churchill turns out.

Canadian Churcill was painted with bronze green?

No — British tanks were not painted deep bronze green until after the war. When the Churchill came into service in 1941, the standard colour for vehicles was Khaki Green No. 3, replaced by SCC 2 brown in mid-1942.

OK Thank you
probably iI will use Gunze H80

Quick question: are you going to correct the exhaust grille as well, or will you leave it like it is?

Because as you can see in this photo of what I assume is a Mk. II, early Churchills had a narrower exhaust with fewer louvres than the later types.

thank you for the photo!
I have to remanage some parts.my target is to realize a Canadian version at Dieppe

I’m not an expert on that operation, but AFAIK all Mks. I and II had the early exhaust. If you have the old Tamiya book on the Churchill:

… on page 22 is a drawing of the style of exhaust in the photo I posted, captioned as “5 inch (old type)”. The whole rear plate should be flush with the edges of the side plates with this exhaust; with the later “8 inch” type, as on your model, the rear plate extends behind the side plates slightly.

do you speak about exaust?

No, I’m talking about the grille that the cooling air comes out through:

Later marks of Churchill had a larger grille here, like on your model, but on the Mks. I and II it was narrower (front to back) like in the photo above.

yes yes i have to check how manage this question… I have to control if Canadians had modify this gate

…real reduction is about 2mm
