Hi all, am getting a little frustrated with getting the right tint for the “Soviet Aircraft cockpit interior green“ for my Bear and other planes lining up to be painted.
I use Tamiya acrylics and I’ve tried mixing XF-5 Green and XF-4 Blue, but the results after a few attempts is only close to what I would describe as US interior green for WWII USAAF bombers and fighters.
So am grateful for the best recipe of using Tamiya Acrylics to get to the Soviet interior cockpit green for the cold war era.
It’s not available any more, but I use Testors Soviet Interior Blue/Green, and I can tell you it tends way more toward the blues than green. And it matches very well to some cockpit decals I have for the Trumpeter Mi-17.
Mixing colors can be tricky - they don’t always do what we think they’ll do. Instead of green and blue perhaps you can try blue and white with just a touch of yellow.
For the Bear, this photo shows a green similar to yours for the fuselage walls, and the more bluish color for the instrument panels:
I had a bottle of it myself (the AMMO one) and I thought it was quite accurate- not as green as it appears in that pic. If I still have it I will pour some out on a bit of paper and take a pic.
I like to use Revells 365 Patina Green, which is also available in their acrylic aqua range. Not sure about the availability in your part of the world though.
Used it here to the instrument panel on a Mil-2. It’s probably a bit greener than others, but it works for me.
Yeah Stephen, this shade of green looks very close to what I want to achieve, but without success so far using Tamiya acrylics, and you’re right in saying Revell colours are not available around here.
It’s been a long time since I’ve used Tamiya, so I’m not sure what colours would work to mix. Going to be a lot of trial and error till you get something that works.
