Coming soon Ferret MK2 from Airfix

Exactly, nothing too hard to replicate. Pretty much everything is square stowage wise including the air cleaner, the hardest parts would probably be the gear select, transfer box, covers for the drive shafts to the front wheels and the front bevel boxes.

Cue Scorpion miniature models😄

Haha yeah I was thinking that, of course this is all speculation. We might get them (I pre-ordered mine) and they might have a perfectly good interior!

And I found another Image with me in the turret … I was in 544 that day …

And me and my driver, spud Murphy …

These were taken up on the old Nicosia airport which was in the UN base area.

I was on the AA site the other day looking for PSP/Marston Matting as each of our wagons carried a section on the front, but I don’t want to have to fork out for a full set for one section which will measure 5 or 6 cm’s!

Sadly we didnt bother with it over there or I would of gone in with to split it 50/50 … I am in thge same boat with the UN decals … I only need about 2 or 3 things from the whole sheet which then probably never get used again …

Edit … In fact I would only need one thing from the whole sheet as they dont do the markings on the turret side … damn it :see_no_evil:

I did notice there are no pioneer tools on the wagons in your pictures. Maybe try and print your own decals. I’ve done some in the past for some of my builds and they have turned out ok. I bought clear and white decal paper, the white would let you print blue and white badges.

Yeah I have done a few of my own as well. Will probably be the easiest option. We would carry the tools usually just no PSP… the photos were from rehearsals for a UN medals parade so no veh kit was fitted that except the extinguishers

Was going to suggest Kingfisher decals, but their web page is showing no UN decals in stock. They might re-stock before you decide to build.

Well it has arrived. A quite small box with one bag with all of the sprues in that bag, this has left some parts twisted on the sprues but nothing that can’t be fettled.

I’ve unbagged it just to have a look at the sprues and gauge the detail on the parts. Overall it’s not too bad in my opinion, some of the parts are a little thick such as the hatches but nothing that can’t be sorted and the tie downs are moulded on. There is a very basic interior which is the same as what is shown on the Airfix site.

I expect someone will come out with an update but if not I’m quite prepared to scratch an interior myself as again it’s nothing too difficult with some thought. Two options for radios being a Larskpur C42 or a twinfit Clansman VRC 353 both with dual antenna mounts which to me both look spot on.

Hull tub and turret are multi part and the wheels are all injection moulded in two parts.

The pioneer tools are not the best and I would imagine most will replace them along with the jerrycans. There is a decal sheet with the necessary decals for all three options in the instructions. Two different options for sidelights, early and late and options to have the covers on the smoke dischargers or not.

All in all I’m happy with a very affordable styrene 1/35 Ferret. I’ll wait a while to see if any upgrades come out but the ability to build my very first signed for vehicle once I’d finished training makes any shortcomings in the kit insignificant to me. I’ll have to change the MG as my vehicle was GPMG equipped and will also need to make a rear basket as most had them unless UN or BATUS based.

Oh and before I forget a clear sprue with headlight and spotlight lenses.

Excellent… Looking at the decals it has the UN one I need for the turret, so it’s just the white on blue United Nations ones and VRNs I will need to do…
Looks pretty good overall.:+1:

I had a word with SMM keep an eye out on their site about updates for this kit👍

It would be good to get some resin updates, air cleaner, front bevel boxes, transfer and gear select leavers etc. Those would be the most difficult to replicate, everything else is just boxes really. The exhaust will need re-doing but again not particularly difficult.

Yep, he has the kit now.

This vehicle is new to me. If the price point is low enough and there are no major flaws, it should serve as an excellent practice model. Thank you for posting pictures of the sprues. In your opinion, using the kit decals, is the model accurate if built closed up?
