The Bunker it is falling down,
Falling down, falling down,
The Bunker it is falling down,
Not unknown to happen, no. And these are on cliffs, now imagine how much quicker that happens to bunkers built in sand dunes:
According to my father, this particular one had a tile floor inside, that he and his friends used to slide down. (It was demolished ca. the 1960s, BTW.)
Or the ones on the beach in western Denmark:
boys will be boys
So is the log, in front of the man, holding back the bunker from sliding?
BTW that is a massive bunker.
I didn’t see the man at first glance …
Massive hunk of concrete …
Looks like from a Star Wars film.
That is clearly a picture of the momma bunker teaching her young bunkerlings how to hunt in the surf.
I was wondering the same thing
1800 cubic metres of concrete and about 125 tonnes of steel …

Trying to discover which Regelbau it was (S.414) so I could find/post plans of it, I came across the same photo on page 100 of the book Atlantikwall in Zeeland en Vlaanderen by Hans Houterman and Hans Sakkers (Middelburg: Hans Sakkers, 1990; ISBN 90-9003302-5), in which its caption says it slid down in November 1950 because the wind and tides eroded the dune.
This particular bunker was the fire control centre of Marineküstenbatterie Zoutelande (which was located here — today, only one bunker remains of it). It was attacked, together with the rest of the battery, by British Commandos in the afternoon of 1 November 1944, with this particular bunker being captured around 16:00 that day.
