Current and future warfighting

Ironically, I think it was RuZZia that more or less invented the AFV APS but for some reason, doesn’t seem to use them.

Maybe they don’t work correctly
or
they need parts that are currently not available

Probably because they simply do not care about their equipment or the lives of their personnel and an APS costs money.

One way to counter FPV drones is to scan the air for them.

The Saab Giraffe 1X radar has a range of 75 KM, or 46 miles, which is enough to protect a moving armored formation. It has a small footprint although I won’t say that a civilian pickup belongs on the battlefield. Nonetheless, Giraffe 1X can be mounted on the bed of a cargo JLTV or cargo ISV perhaps. Some civilian pickups can be heavily armored by armoring companies.

Does it work on a hundred drone swarm?

I’m waiting for the launch of drone-hunting drones. Bound to happen…

There are such drones.
Police/Prison authorities are searching for methods to take down drones around airfields and drones dropping illegal supplies into prison yards.
I saw a TV-program about it maybe 10 - 15 years ago.
One solution was to drop/shoot a net over the “illicit” drone:

In a warzone the procedure could be more brutal since debris falling to the ground is not such a major concern,it can be of interest to capture the illicit drone for investigation.
Dragging a drone loaded with live explosives and hypersensitive detonators back home to base might not be the best idea of the century.
Foul the propellers with nets or wires and let them drop …

Another solution was trained eagles but they would bring their prey back to the trainer/handler to trade it for some food. No bueno with live explosives …

I can see the evolution of drones armed with shotguns, targeting radar, and some kind of friend/foe identifier, launched to loiter over the area waiting for a target with no need for an operator link or other disruptable comms.

Weren’t the French training birds of prey to attack drones near prisons etc?

Pretty sure we were warned about armed drones a few decades ago…

Sorry, not convinced.
Radar signatures can attract all kinds of bad things.
You need a passive system that is not detectable.
Drone swarms overwhelm most defenses.
Your armor column is on the move. suddenly a thousand yards away 100 drones fly out of a barn. You have about 30 seconds to eliminate 100 drones. Jamming is about the only thing you can do for a large numbers defense.

or scatter type guns, as in large caliber rapid fire shotguns, which can deliver a large volume of shrapnel/pellets.
Close in defense with something resembling Claymore mines

At short range, lasers could be highly effective against swarms.

It could get tricky to aim, illuminate long enough, traverse to new target with a sufficiently short cycle.
The Ukrainian drone operators have sometimes used an ambush tactic, the attack-drone sits and hides behind something, a surveillance drone keeps an eye on the road/route/trail.
When the target gets close the attack-drone pops up and makes the final 10 - 20 yard attack run.
Hard to make evasive maneuvers or aim and fire countermeasures in that short time.
