Currently operating hobby shops (Brick and Mortar)

Nothing wrong with Hobby Town.
Two good ones in the Denver Metro area, both called Colpar’s.

3355 S Wadsworth Blvd
Lakewood, CO 80227

1915 S Havana St
Aurora, CO 80014-1011

There are two in the Springs as well. One on South Academy and one was near North Academy at Woodman. It closed but I hear it has reopened elsewhere. It had a very good selection of books and armor kits.

Several weeks ago I visited Branson Hobby Center for the second time in two years. Very nice shop with a good selection (even most kit done by Atlantis) but their specialty is model railroading.

251A Saint James St
Hollister, MO 65672-5482

And there’s M&L Models and Records. Very offbeat and hard to find older kits:

6504 Ravenna Ave NE
Seattle, WA 98115

I got one in Asheville too,only 20 min,not a lot of kits,but Tamiya,Vallejo,Mission,Revell,and AK-Real paints.

Hickory is about 75 min, more of a day trip to Hickory,Morganton, and Marion with the wife.

I’m not sure if it’s still open because I haven’t been there in years but Google still has them open.

Bay Shore Hobbies
2056 Sunrise Hwy
Bay Shore, NY 11706

Pretty much everything you need for the hobby. Kits, details, paints, tools, etc. Also model railroad, R/C, reference books and magazines… Everything. The inside is packed floor to ceiling with stuff and the rows are stacked about 2 kits deep in front of the shelves.

OK, I am not going to get into addresses and all because you can find all that for yourself online.

Scale Reproductions: Louisville, Kentucky
Everything in Armor, Everything in R/C. Lots of Trains, Ships and Cars
Lots of Evergreen and Plastrut.
Slot car track as well as dirt, off-road R/C track.
Best Hobbyshop I have ever been in !!!

Berkshire Trains: Lexington, Kentucky
Trains, trains and more trains plus classic toys. (All Scales and All Eras)
Authorized Lionel Repair Center

Round House Trains: Louisville, Kentucky
Trains, trains and more trains. (All Scales and All Eras)
Authorized Lionel Repair Center
Largest train store I have ever been in! HUGE

EnterTRAINment: Cincinnati, Ohio
The “hobbyshop” is mostly modern toys but this place has the LARGEST operating G Scale Layout quite possibly in the entire World! It is all computer controlled with lights and animation. 30+ trains running all at the same time, some even high above you head on spindly bridges that you walk under. There is a fully modeled city with skyscrapers having complete interiors. Even a two story tall representation of the Seattle “Space Needle”. (Used to disguise a central ceiling column.) FANTASTIC!

Hobby Town: Lexington, Kentucky
Great selection of Armor, as well as Cars, Ships, Trucks and Planes. Lots of R/C Trucks
(R/C Sales, Custom Builds & Repairs)
LOTS of Evergreen and Plastrut.

They cater to several types of hobbies. Since moving to Rapid City I enjoy going to their shop…which as you can see…is an actual brick and mortar store. They are definitely a one stop hobby shop and always have what I need.

Another shop I go to when I’m in town visiting family.

HOBBY TOWN USA
746 Grapevine Hwy, Hurst, TX 76054

Goid selection of armor, aircraft, cars, boats, Gundam, sci-Fi, etc…

Plus RC cars, toys, airsoft, puzzles, paints and anything else.

Man I was close to there a few weeks ago and didn’t know!
Thanks for the info and I’ll check it out next trip to SD (i’m in MN).

That one is not bad, but their sister location (Wild Bill’s) off of I-20 in Arlington is far better. Much larger selection plus a huge stock of older kits from estate sales.

But going back to the one on Grapevine, my favorite part about visiting there is going to the Vietnamese place a few doors down. Best Banh Mi’s I’ve had, other than a place in Fremont in Seattle I go to.

HQ Hobbies
394 New Haven Avenue
Milford, Connecticut 06460

This is a Model shop, pure and true. Armor, planes, cars, ships, and Sci-Fi shelved 10 feet high and 30 feet long in four aisles. The owner is an avid armor builder, so the armor aisle is always freshly stocked. He’s even got a 1/35 Dora on the top shelf for sale. Excellent selection of paints, glues, putties, Evergreen, K&S Brass, and much more for the builder. Plan on a two hour visit. The owner’s name is Randy. A really outstanding LHS!

I think I went to Wild Bill’s once. Totally forgot about that shop.

Bay Shore hobbies is definitely still there and finally moved next door to a much bigger store so he does have models stacked on the floor. Tons of Armor, Aircraft, ships but also lots of railroad stuff and RC. Prices are very high though.

You’re welcome. The next time you are in the area you will have to check it out. Definitely worth your time to stop in and look around.

Cool. I hope that you get a chance to check them out. A bit of friendly advice. Don’t park on Main Street by the shop, park on one of the side streets. Main Street has diagonal parking and backing out into Main Street traffic can be a huge pain. :open_mouth:
