I am preparing to tackle a CVR(T) Sultan, and have noticed in certain photographs the absence of the telescopic antennas. Are these only fitted in specific circumstances?

In camp they will be in the troop cages and off the vehicle unless they are being used for training or a course or a demo etc. They will be usually fitted when you go on exercise once you get on the area and then fitted until endex. It varies on deployments, they can be fitted or not, depending on the scenario or mission.
