Is the box (first aid kit?) on the left side of the late Dingos a post war contrivance? WW2 photo I’m finding dont seem to show it. Photos I am seeing with it are restorations and a couple postwar rigs.
I’ve tried to figure that one out myself. First yes, it’s a first aid box and it does appear in that location in some Mk2 storage diagrams dated from the 1940’s.
I’ve come across one photo that is supposed to have been lifted from a contemporary promotional film clip. here
The only picture I’ve ever been able to find of the box mounted on an operational WW2 vehicle actually had it installed on the plate to the left of the side hatch roughly aligned with the top hinge. Sorry I can’t find the picture right now.
If you’re building for the Korean war (1950) this might be helpful.
Considering how hard it is to find photos I doubt it was typically installed.

Colin
Thanks. I’m going for UK based, 1942. (Polish 10th Mounted Rifles , Scotland.) Decal sheet I have (Toro 48D24) shows the Regt. emblem where the box is, but no box. Only other “reference” I’ve seen is a glorified Matchbox diecast one with the emblem on the box … top/side/ bottom. Not the most reliable.
You could try contacting the decal manufacturer and asking about their references. They probably have access to Regimental archives and Military Museums that haven’t digitized their holdings yet.
Good luck.
The allied forces from occupied Europe stationed in Britain all “punched well above their weight” and don’t get seem to get anything like the attention they deserve. It’s an interesting subject.
Cheers,
Colin
True dat. Highest scoring squadron during the Battle of Britain was 303 “Tadeusz Kościuszko Warsaw” Squadron with 126 claimed/ 58 confirmed kills. And they became operational 2 months after the BoB started. Good idea on contacting the decal maker. Toro is out of Poland and probably has better access to info from there. (Also need to pick their minds on a Sherman I with 2nd Armored Brigade. As far as Ican tell most Polish Shermans in Italy were Sherman III or Vs. Was it an old L-L Brit Sherman I? Or a late war remanufactured one? After the US stopped making 75mm gunned Shermans they rebuilt ones used for training, etc, for Brit L-L contracts. Or … was it an Ex US tank handed over to the Poles when US forces started drawing down?
