Here a small glimpse into Dampflokwerk Meiningen. It is one of the few facilities over here that can re-manufacture and even re-build steam engines. It has it´s origins in the Reichbahn Ausbesserungs Werk RAW. Me being a trained machinist, I find it fascinating to see all the huge tool machines, some 100 years old, in working order.

Awesome facility! The steam tramway museum overhere has so great knowledge of steam engines (replacing steam pipes, even for the national railway museum.) but they can only dream of this facility!

We can be glad that the East Germans kept the facility running ´til the Wende.

Meiningen is about 90 km from my place. Problem that there are far too many stupid gazers at the Open House shows.
