Damraska's Fictional Projects

Gamers call these things “Dungeon Dressing”. That is the wrong term. They are really doll house sized pieces of decor. Since all these pieces are made from project scraps, I am now calling them “Scrap Decor”.

Many years ago, I had the idea to build a Used Spaceship Lot in 1/35 scale. Stickframe’s stuff put me back on that path. I am giving myself a year to build a big science fiction diorama.

My first piece for that diorama is this little computer console. It is a little shorter than Otto, who I forgot to include in these pictures. A computer screen decal will go on the sloped surface. I still need to design that in Inkscape.

When I showed this to my brother he said, “It looks like a piece of background equipment from FallOut.” Success!

This one is inspired by Moonbase Alpha corridor columns.

The front face is dominated by a huge touch panel computer screen. That will be fun to make in Inkscape.

The rear is full of junction boxes and access panels.

Otto’s binoculars broke in half. :frowning:

Three more terrain tiles for the collection.

These are really hard to photograph! All three pieces use the layering technique described a few entries back. Each one took about three hours to sculpt. Most figure painters would create bases like these in a couple minutes using something like Celluclay. The upside of using Milliput is that these squares are completely inorganic, very tough, and way more detailed than other kinds of tiles. Since I am making these for dioramas and figures bases, not gaming, this seems like a worthwhile tradeoff.

This batch includes one square tile and two cavern bases.

Though out of focus, this picture gives a better idea of how detailed these pieces are.

The stalagmites are based on ones in real caves.

Little mud volcanoes like these do appear in caves with active water movement. This piece includes many different textures in a very small space.

This picture shows how the pieces will eventually come together to form a much larger work. The tile on the lower left is the one from above. This angle shows how the tiles are designed to convey depth even though they are very thin in profile.

This one is designed to look like pyramid shaped computer consoles in some old science fiction movies.

A display screen will fill the large, flat area on the front.

This is my first simple security robot for the space base.

A Star Trek campaign is starting soon so I decided to take a walk down memory lane and open up two of my old display cases.

Star Fleet Battles Orion Pirate Heavy Cruiser Star Girl

Star Girl trashed a lot of starships in her day. :slightly_smiling_face:

Star Fleet Battles Klingon C7 Heavy Battlecruiser

Star Fleet Battles Federation Scout USS Circe (kit bash)

USS Circe was extremely annoying to my opponents.

Star Fleet Battles Klingon D9 Dreadnought

For some reason I decided Klingon ships should be blue.

Star Fleet Battles Federation Dreadnought USS Athena

USS Athena was a very tough ship that wrecked a whole lot of enemies in her day.

Star Fleet Battles Gorn Heavy Cruiser

This ship wears invasion stripes for the war in Romulan space.

Star Fleet Battles Klingon Fleet Tug

Star Fleet Battles Tholian Patrol Cruiser (scratch built)

Star Fleet Battles Federation Fleet Battle Tug USS Titan

This ship is a brute.

Star Fleet Battles Klingon D7 Battlecruiser

Star Fleet Battles Federation Destroyer USS Electra

Star Fleet Battles Klingon D5 War Cruiser

My best friend was an ace with these excellent ships.

The walk down memory lane concludes.

Star Fleet Battles Federation Galactic Survey Cruiser USS Enchantress (kit bash)

This was my very favorite ship because she could shut down an entire squadron all by herself.

Star Fleet Battles Tholian Battleship (scratch built)

This was my other best friend’s favorite ship. The web casters make it very nasty for anyone without experience fighting Tholians.

Star Fleet Battles Tholian Dreadnought

One of the best bang for buck ships in the game.

Star Fleet Battles Tholian Heavy Cruiser, Tholian Heavy Scout, Tholian War Cruiser (scratch built)

Polar Lights Federation Heavy Cruiser USS Astra

No one can accuse me of not taking chances. :slightly_smiling_face: USS Astra was sent into battle before completion, thus the strange paint scheme.

I have not visited this side of the house in a while.

As may be obvious based on the color, these are more terrain pieces sculpted using basic Milliput. The left one is an attempt to sculpt a really elaborate stalagmite like ones found in Carlsbad Caverns.

Really dig these “Scrap Decor” designs :light_bulb:

Finished: Terrain Pieces

Three inch round ocean bottom base with mounting points for 4 creatures.

Two inch round cave base.

Two inch cave pool.

Two inch square cave tile.

These are my first completed terrain pieces in the sense that they are painted. It is now possible to see all the sculpting effort that went into them. Completed is something of a misnomer because they are intended to become parts of larger displays.
