Deal’s Wheels Messa Schnitzel 109

This is arguably (somewhat) a WWII Axis subject so…

To quote John Cleese…

This is another long sidelined project that I suddenly felt the urge to complete…

last night I pulled it off the shelf of doom and pondered what had been constructed so far

So today I started airbrushing basic colors… I’m going with a Battle of Britain inspired 1940 color scheme instead of what’s on the box top…

The white areas are a base for yellow and I still need to add the RLM 70 over the RLM 02, but at least now it’s on the path to completion… stay tuned for more progress on Monday or Tuesday…

I like it !! You are doing a nice job on the build and the paint. This should be a great “save” from the shelf of doom !

Thanks Dan! Just having a little fun here in the shallow end instead of the usual deep dive like I have been doing.

Today I airbrushed on some Alclad Chrome onto the engine parts and I made a mix of Tamiya colors for the RLM 04 Yellow.

More to come in the next few days…

This is way cool Carlos. I had a few of these kits when I was a kid. Fun builds.

Ya gotta love that 70’s engineering

Thanks! And yes, pure fun factor here.

With the pilot being, of course, the Luftwaffe ace Weiner Möldy, to pull the name from a different boxing of the kit:

Yesterday I masked off the cowling and rudder, and today I airbrushed on the RLM 71, then did touch ups on the RLM 02 and RLM 65

Almost ready for the next assembly steps…

The past few days I got the upper rear fuselage glued in place, some seam work done (but not enough to quite fix them without remove surface detail), and lastly the horizontal stabilizers glued in place along with the brace struts. I also did some touch up paint work, as well as getting the canopy dipped in a Future bath…

I now need to mask of the canopy panes and paint the frame work, finish painting up Herr Möldy Wiener among a few other bits of detail painting, do a tad bit of tough up paint work on the tail around the brace struts, but then it will be ready for a gloss coat and decals…

I got the decals applied this afternoon… but I had not stored them properly in a zip lock bag so they did not come out 100%…

I have to do so repair touch up work on a few of them.

Don’t you just hate that … when you try so hard to get the paint done right and then out of the blue the decals fail miserably?!

Camo and paint look fantastic, that stinks about the decal

Wow that really looks fantastic Carlos. Old decals suck.

Thanks guys! As this was going sideways, I was wondering about any possible workarounds I might have in my decal spares collection. The best I could think of was some 1/32 Me-109 stuff, but I do not know if they would actually fit. But you guys see the worst one, on the wing top. If I can repair that one with paint pens, I’ll be fine.

Today was repair work on the decals…here are before and after photos of my efforts from earlier today.

I also worked on painting the canopy framework and on most of the flesh and detail work on Herr Wiener Möldy

all in all not too bad of results…

No, man, it’s looking good. You did a great job on those decals. Looking forward to the end results !
