Desert Raiders - Hail HYDRA

Now for something a little different; Tamiya’s 1/35 Type 82 DAK Kubelwagen Afrika Korps but built as one in use by Marvel’s HYDRA forces in North Africa during WW2. The figures are from DML’s Hermann Goering Division. The scene depicts a fictional (of course, it’s comic related) Hydra Special unit in Africa that discovered a Tomb in the desert. The Kubel parked above and the troops below, entering the tomb with their guns ready and a German “torch” (flashlight) in hand.

The base (desert and tomb) all carved from XPS foam then painted and weathered accordingly. The Kubel built pretty much stock with just a few refinements and stowage. HYDRA markings are from a sci-fi decal sheet I bought off eBay many moons ago… The figures were painted using several techniques, including contrast paints for the uniforms and flesh tones - my first time using them. The “torch” is made from a miniature LED bulb wired through the soldier’s hand and then down the back of him through the base. Everything sealed up in a “softball display case” with the wiring, switch and battery pack concealed under the base.
