I am looking at doing a P-38G and am interested in using Academy’s P-38F if there are no visual differences. Thanks for any help and I know Tamiya makes one but I am on a budget and it is not for a contest.
I have two P-38s on the bench. I’m no P-38 expert by any means, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express a few times. I don’t think the more powerful engine on the G model made it visually distinct, nor did the radio. The J model, however, was noticeably different. I liken the radiator/oil cooler inlets to those found on the P-40 Warhawk.

The canopy center section on the F model is hinged on the right side.
The one on the G is hinged to the rear. AFAIK, that’s the only visible difference.

Thanks to both for the answers, I can leave the canopy closed and scratch a hinge so it looks to open G style. I haven’t seen anything in my travels around the internet other than what you have mentioned here so I will go with the F and convert it to a G.
