Hello, @
Thanks for the comments.
I’m considering some poetic licenses in this building.
It’s all your model. Enjoy!
This guy will be drinking a hot beverage, holding the thermos in one hand and the mug in the other. Both coming from IDF Accessories by AK Interaktive
This other one will hold some fish in one hand and the fishing rod in the other.
Since the original figure had his hand in his pocket, I put one from the ET Model P35-320 Hands for Figures Type 1 set.
I’m still making some adjustments to get the arm to the correct size.
The only thing that would justify the biger left arm would be that he spent his adolescence as a left-hander.
In the meantime, I managed to make progress in creating silicone molds to copy resin pieces.
I was happy with the result of this reproduction:
Original piece
Finished mold
First copy
This weekend I have to re-mold the tires.
Since imports are virtually at a standstill due to the tax inspectors’ strike, buying the excellent set of DEF Model wheels is out of the question.
While it may be too late for this build, (interesting by the way) a little over three decades ago there was an article in one of the model railroad mags about making your own corrugated gondola cars, as there were non available back then. I tried it and it was reasonably successful. I took pieces of plastic currugated material, cut them to shape, and attached them between the vertical supports.
Obviously the interior should have had it as well but it would have been way too thick. A simple load of rusty junk hid the interior side of the panels.
Agreed @18bravo I think it’s achievable to do the corrugated sides. There’s a range of materials that may suit, depending on scale. The interior of the sides of some cardboard boxes may work but I’ve also seen the interior of ‘core flute’ posters may be ok too. We’ve just had an election here and posters of that type of material were widely used but I noticed two sizes of core flute interior, the smaller of which looked good for this scale. Maybe Rafael can consider that for a future version.
Rafael the figures are looking really nice! Good start to getting realistic postures!
Hey guys!
@18bravo and @SamS, thanks for your comments.
I did some tests before starting the assembly and I didn’t like the results.
Since this version of the body also existed in the area and I always found this pressed metal shape on the sides interesting, I decided to leave it like that.
Hello, everyone.
After a long time without updates, I bring you some small advances:
I got some reasonable copies of the tires and started working on the base.
I’m thinking of putting transparent (or almost) resin, representing some of the freshwater canals in the Suez region, in the red area.
In the green area, perhaps a Milestone to better locate the scene.
I found these images for inspiration. I’m not sure which city to feature in this milestone yet.
Any suggestions?
Still tracking nicely. I think the third photo (36) looks good. Maybe owing to the grass around the marker to add a bit of added interest.
Since I want to place the water (freshwater canal) within the scene, the Unimog would have to be a little bit away from the road.
I thought about bringing in elements that would only be on the edge of the road.
In this case, a little grass wouldn’t hurt.
Hello everyone!
After a wonderful family vacation, I’m back.
We visited a region in Brazil that produces the best cocoa in the world, Ilhéus, BA. We visited some cocoa farms that also produce delicious chocolates.
There, the cocoa is produced within the Atlantic Forest in a system called “cabruca”.
Well, back to work, lol.
Looking at some photos of the Suez Canal region, I saw that I could improve the slope of the canal at the base of the diorama, so I made a small modification:

The circular Styrofoam base that will be covered with a wooden sheet.
I increased the inclination and will do some tests with the transparent resin that I have here to see if the coverage I made, using acrylic putty, is enough to not damage the Styrofoam.
