Eagle Point Railroad Damaged By Wildfire

I’ve never been to this I’ve heard it was really nice. This large scale railroad was heavily damaged when a neighbor illegally burning leaves during red flag conditions let his fire get out of control on a gusty day.

This site allows you to see pictures on the day of the fire and then the day after, shows destroyed locomotives and rolling stock.

This post from 4 days ago describes more of the damage.

A homeowner who violated a burn ban is the person responsible for a massive wildfire in Sequatchie County that’s just 65% contained as of Monday afternoon, according to the county mayor’s office.

She says no one is facing charges at this time.

Several years ago some teenagers intentionally dropping lit matches into the dry leaves and brush along a trail started what became the forest fire that burned up so much of Gatlinburg tennessee. And then came the heavy rains and the mudslides. I was there about 6 months later and asked about it and told that they had dropped the charges for the kids. I was exasperated, but the locals told me it’s because law enforcement was trying to find more evidence to make an even more iron clad case for future charges. That’s probably never going to happen because the initial fires were started in the national park and the park was left out of a 1997 agreement giving both state and federal agencies authority to prosecute crimes committed on federal lands.

That kind of nonsense angers me when people get away with crimes like that. In 2021 there was an idiot here that decided to burn his brush pile when there was a fire ban in effect due to the conditions and high winds. But he decided to burn it anyway because evidently, he is entitled, and the fire got away from him and burned several hundred acres and destroyed homes and other property. No charges were filed because they couldn’t prove he was the one that started the fire and when questioned about it he said it was arson because someone had snuck onto his property that day and set his brush pile on fire. :rage: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
