I’m looking at doing a diorama for the Egyptian crossing of the Suez Canal in the near future. From what I’ve gathered the Egyptians, once across began building pontoon bridges. I’ve read they used British and Soviet style pontoons to achieve this. Would a Soviet PMP bridge be appropriate for this time period? I’m looking at building one via 3D print and want to make sure it’s the correct style.
Google “Egypt, Suez, 1973” - some pictures of the bridges there.
@jwest yes that’s what I’ve done, i just want to know what they would be categorized as. The Egyptians were supplied by the Soviets but had leftover British equipment as well. I’m trying to figure out the proper name of the Soviet supplied my assumption of what would be considered Bailey bridges.
@Frenchy thank you, it was difficult to tell in some of the black and white photos online.
Yeah that’s the ticket.
There was also a shore section:

but I don’t know if Egypt used these on their bridges for that crossing.
Just for info Robin, I think Miniman packed it in last year.
I think they might have
I’ll check my sources
The PMP bridge consists of shore and river sections.
Shore sections serve as floating ramps, while river sections are floating pontoons.
One might connect as many river sections as necessary, but without shore sections no vehicle can access the floating bridge.
And yes, unfortunately Miniman Factory ceased operations last year.
Cheers,
Angel
I didn’t spend too much time looking for a useable image so I used the one from MMF.

Prime Portal has some photos: http://www.primeportal.net/bridging/carrey/pmp_pontoon_section/
From what i can gather they used river sections, i can tell if there is a shore section but id have to assume there was. I guess my questions is, how different is the shore section compared to the river section. It appears to be more angular and squared then the smooth boat/pontoon like parts.
and it has ramps on hinges.
side sections narrower
see photos I linked to in my previous post
@Uncle-Heavy thank you, i was attempting to study them earlier. I’d like to depict the end of the ramp with pontoons over the canal and a ZSU-52-2 driving over. I may have to do some digging on 3D printer websites to see if someone can mod it.
Here a site of the GDR NVA PMP Pontonpark.

@HermannB those are some great photos, gets the close up i need to possible scratch build it.
Hobby Link offers a 3D printed Soviet PMP bridge set. They are available through Wanamaker hobbies in the US, also on eBay.
