Every Piece of Gear in An U.S. Army Jungle Warfare Soldier

Minutes from Carson?
My chapter of the SFMC is hosting a free range day at Cactus Flats on 29 April. Come on by!

Did I mention it was not cheap? Total price for everything was around $300.

Dude, I’d have given you a deal at $200.

I have too much time on my hands today.

To steer this back to the hobby, if one were to do a “what if” of a not so infeasible modern warfare scenario in the Pacific, then I’d say an odd ALICE pack would be totally appropriate, and maybe one man in a squad sporting an LC-2 rig. 2 Quart canteens would definitely be in the picture for everyone, either in MOLLE or ALICE carriers. I can picture a Live Resin style figure vignette in 1/16 resembling a modern U.S. jungle fighter like the ones in the photo I posted and possibly with optional head sculpts for a boonie hat or an ACH.

When I was in Nam, we never used the ALICE packs. We used Brown Paper Bags from SHOPRITE and Duct tape for pack straps. Just ask Norm Swartzkopf. He was my Platoon Leader.

For Apache26 and anyone else in SOCO. I’ve posted this before, but since all proceeds help vets get back on their feet, I’ll post again here:

Come talk to SF vets, all of whom actually wore this ancient gear. One of our members was a tunnel rat in 'Nam. Anyone between Dallas and Pueblo can ride with me the Thursday prior. Probably have to find a stripper to put you up for the night though. :frowning:

Nice pics. But don’t believe everything you see.
Afghanistan, recent enough to be sporting the M17.

That one looks like a Tactical Tailor MALICE Pack.

Indeed. But at 1/35, the buckles won’t be discernible. I think I’ll go back and add ALICE packs to all my build that feature stowage. Drive the judges crazy if I ever enter another contest. Maybe write a link to this thread at the bottom of the registration sheet.

Gez I love hearing anything about Rangers… even stories about daily b.s.

One of my old acquaintances jumped into Omar Torrijo Airport during Operation Just Cause (1/75th Rangers).

I get a kick out of listening to the war stories.

Lol, same hear, just spent about an hour listening to old flight videos of pilots either being shot down or evading SAMS thru the HUD footage. Just love hearing the cross talk lingo.

Not much to do with the original thread but fun nonetheless:

On top of being a (mostly-wannabe-cuz-I-don’t-have-time/space) modeler, I also collect militaria.

I discovered this by accident a few years ago when I stumbled upon an online market that greatly valued named/used in-country uniforms and gear - I was offered $500 for a modified DCU…

Coming around to the relevant part, all four of my sons were in Boy Scouts, and when each of them transitioned from the Cub pack to the Scout troop, I gave them a large ALICE pack, a 4-piece sleep system (all in M81 woodycam), and other bits and bobs that would make camping more fun.

All 4 are now in the Army (one National Guard, 3 active duty). On his last leave, my youngest–currently assigned to 2/505, 82nd ABN—stole my new-in-wrapper 1990s vintage “air items” - ALICE ruck harness, attaching straps, and HPT lowering line so that he can use his f___ing ALICE pack not only in the field, but also jump it in. Apparently, the new system of air items is just different enough that they won’t allow troopers to jump ALICE packs in it, but it’s totally cool to go completely old skool…

 Who in the hell is offering that? I’ve got modified sets, with pockets moved to sleeves, that actually deployed to Afghanistan. Wonder what they would fetch?

Wow. I have about 8 sets, 4 or so unused plus a brand new field jacket, a set of new DCU gortex. Nothing modified though. There are no Army -Navy stores here in Long Island that will buy them. Everyone wants OCP.

It was long enough ago that I don’t remember - a guy on a militaria forum. It was more than the traditional pockets-to-sleeves mod. I had seen photos of the ACU prior to it’s adoption, and replaced the front closure of the shirt with a zipper and velcro salvaged from a JS-LIST and added calf pockets to the pants with material salvaged from the same DCU JS-LIST. I failed to get any patches on it before we deployed, so I had my stuff (Name, U.S. Army, CMB, combat jump wings, 1 AD patch, 173d ABN combat patch) embroidered straight to the shirt. I think the guy had some special love for the Herd, which motivated the offer.
No, I didn’t take it. I still have the whole thing. I’m gonna let my great-grandkids profit from it.
