Back when we had an actual Army!
I remember that it was pulled - ie finished early because of the bad weather.
And mighty pleased we were as well … nothing like screaming round the country in a 70 ton mobile freezer
Manöverschäden! Als die Welt noch in Ordnung war!
100% Hermann … they were real exercises back then.
They were indeed; and I loved Germany because of the Ordentlichkeit.
I just watched it again … Those Cr’s going cross country are beautiful and just seeing them crawl through a German village… And for those not sure, these Exercises were played out in real time in real German villages and farmland with the locals getting on with their normal daily business. I loved those Exercises.
I participated in Centurion Shield, the last great maneuver REFORGER of the 80s-90s. The box was from Ingolstadt SW to Augsburg. A great learning experience for my unit. None of my LTs had ever done one, and this was grand.
The brief glimpse of Div HQ (it could have been a Brigade) does it for me; how often had I grafted away in one those?
But the scale of those exercises was something unique to experience; the formations on the ground, the incorporation of air, allied formations (Belgian and German panzers shown in the film clip) , the sheer interoperability of it all, and the sense of purpose. The threat was real, and the exercises conducted accordingly.
The almost mind-numbing fatigue, the grime, the endless moves, the time spent in an NBC suit (like, most of the exercise), in my case the constant demands of staff officers, the demand for map marking, production of op orders, traces etc, the radio chatter, the command briefings, the smell of tobacco and stale coffee. God, I loved it all…
I, for one, still hold the Cr Mk1 is the best looking tank. I am a big fan of the lines, the sleekness, it just has all the right looks!
Going to have to pull the one I have in the stash out now.
Well done Cory … you are now on my Christmas card list … a man of impeccable taste
Isn´t a new Chally 1 kit on the horizon? Hmmmm. building a Chally 1 together with a Stalwart?
As in a new tooled one from a manufacturer ? God I hope so … I will be getting a Stollie as well at some point …
Wasn´t it Trumpeter? I think it was announced on this years Toy Fair. I remember a cartoon I saw years ago. An officer asks a farmer: “Wohin wollen Sie Ihre Manöverschäden haben?”
“Where do you want your maneuver damage?”
It is indeed Trumpeter.

Yes, I remember now, you are correct … I think it was posted here with a few shots from a model show …
That happened for sure … It would usually be his most least productive field, that would then suddenly be filled with his most expensive plants or seeds … but no one blamed them … their land would get properly ripped up … we got asked to drive into a barn wall once as he wanted to new wall building !!
Yes thats the one on the Scalemates site … I remember from the actual built images I wasnt overly impressed with how it looked and said I would be sticking to the Tamiya offering
But there is still a lack of suitable figures.
I agree, but I still love look of the Chieftain!
I like finding these video’s on Youtube, I didn’t serve but that’s not for the want of trying all be it with the RAF as an Erk. I have always had an interest and read loads of books, watched video’s etc and of course built models.
Sometimes these video’s give the inspiration needed to start a new project. I have gone down the Soviet/Warsaw Pact rabbit hole but I can feel a counter brewing in the form of a Cent, Chieftain and Chally (Tamiya 1 and 1Mk3 in the stash) along with an Italian Leo.
True, Warrior did a set of decent DPM figures in crew postions that could be used. I used one on my Striker build, and it looked ok. Accurate Armour did some ok ones, but that option has now gone. UK crew figures from late 80’s to late 90’s would be nice.
You make the Christmas card list as well
