For those curious to know why the nickname. It was because:

  1. General Dynamics Plant No. 4, where the aircraft was developed and built, was based at Carswell AFB, near Ft. Worth, TX. It is currently owned by Lockheed-Martin, which is the main assembly plant for the F-35 Lightning.

  1. They called them “Swingers” because of the swing-wing configuration.
