F-6D Mustang

New Year, new procject.
I wanted to begin this model since I bought the last part of resin add-ones two years ago. But I think that New Year is a good occasion.
So, model:

Looking good. These Eduard Mustangs are a thing of beauty.

Still assembly the interior, but I’m close to finish it.

Photo cameras bay is almost ready. Only few PE parts left.

Photo cameras made by Eduard are excellent, so I decided to glue all of them and leave outside the plane.

I finished instrument panel.

Almost ready for primer.

I Tested Gunze Ueno Black (GX 2) and Super Fine Silver 2 (SM 201). Looking good to me.

I came back to the F-6. I finsed sanding and put black surfacer as base for silver colours:

First silver colour - AK Xtreme metal 481 - Polished aluminium (together with smaller brother  ):

Both Mustangs go together with painting:
I painted wings white aluminium (AK Xtreme 478).

I painted also anti glare panel (Olive drab - Tamiya XF-62) and yellow tip of stabilizer (Gunze H329) - It’s not finished yet.

I painted the propeller:

Nice job on the yellow. That part always stumps me.

Fantastic build! The F-6D Mustang is such an iconic aircraft, and you’ve done a great job capturing its sleek lines and character. The paintwork and weathering look very realistic.

Did you find any particular challenges with this kit? I’m curious how the fit and detail compare to other Mustang variants.

Pitar, it’s Eduard kit and almost everything fit well. I had one problem (but as I know not only me) - elements with gun muzzle ends didn’t fit well, but a bit of sanding solved the problem. And, as each Eduard’s manual, You have to read it carefully.

I’m working on engine.

Engine covers are almost ready. I have to paint top covers olive drab (but it will be at the end of assembly)

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ve heard good things about Eduard’s Mustang kits overall, so it’s great to know that the fit is mostly solid. And yes, their manuals can be… let’s say “an adventure” if you’re not paying attention!

I’ll definitely keep that gun muzzle area in mind. Have you built any of their other Mustang variants, like the P-51D or B/C? Curious how they compare!

I’m building their D but in 1:72nd scale:

1:48th scale is not my primary (I don’t have enough space for finished models  ).

Thanks for the link—your 1:72 build looks great! I admire anyone who can get that much detail at that scale. I’ve mostly stuck with 1:48 so far, but seeing your work is making me reconsider. Do you have a favorite Mustang variant to build overall?

Of course “D” variants .
But I should to build version “B”, because 3 Polish squadrons flew this version during World War II.

That makes perfect sense—there’s definitely something special about building a version with a strong historical connection. The “B” Mustang has such a distinct look too, especially with the earlier canopy design. Are you planning to do it in Polish squadron markings? That would be a great tribute build!
