F105 Thud - which kit is better Hobby Boss, Monogram, or Revell?

I’ve got an itch to build a Thud, looks like the only kits that exist are relatively old, most are 1990s vintage, a few reboxes from the early 2Ks.

I see that two are pretty easy to find, a 1/48 from Revell, Monogram, and Hobby Boss. Only Revell kits I’ve built in 30 years are their pro-modeler series, the last Monogram was even longer ago, and I’ve never touched a Hobby Boss kit.

So which of these two do you think is a higher quality kit, prices are about even?

I’d prefer the single-seater over the Weasel.

The Hobbyboss kit is a nice kit and much newer than the others but not without its fault’s, but then again they all have their faults. The Hobbyboss kit is a scaled down version of the Trumpeter 1/32 kit (Trumpeter and Hobbyboss being the same company).
If you want to detail it then there are more AM parts available for the Hobbyboss kit than you can possibly need, ResKit do a ton of stuff including a new nose.

A quick check on Scalemates reveals that the Monogram, Revell and Hasegawa kits are the same mould/mold with a few ‘new’ parts added to the Revell kit in the 1990’s. The Hobbyboss kit dates to 2008.

Sweet, and TYVVM!

(off to buy my 1st HB kit ever thanks to you)

For plain old build fun, you can’t beat a 70’s era Monogram 1/48 aircraft kit.

A Word on the Trumpeter 105G: Examine the Shrikes Closely; I built the 72nd scale kit and The AGM-45s did not look like the Actual Missiles, The Fins were mismolded.

@Keith_Ranson

ResKit has you covered

They also do them in 1/48 for OP’s build if needed.

Defintely better than the Kit Version; I used Hasegawa Missiles for My Model

The Monogram kit is pretty nice if you don’t mind raised panel lines. They have the shapes of things more accurate than the Hobbyboss kit, and no need to replace such items by surgery or AM purchases if that is your preference.

Also, if you’re looking for the 70’s era hump backed Thunderstick II variant, Revell is the only choice there.

Years ago I would sand them off and then scribe new panel lines in. These days I don’t scribe - you’ll never get it to scale and it’s so much easier (and in my mind more realistic) to just draw them on with a very fine pencil.

Built the HobbyBoss G and it turned out all right, but had some issues. The engine was very difficult to get aligned correctly and the cockpit fit is meh.
