Here is my next project, an FAA F4U Corsair with clipped wing tips. I did a 1/72 Tamiya Corsair a few years ago flown by Pappy Boyington. I understand the Revell kit is NOT the high quality of Tamiya but it doesn’t look all that bad. The kit should be in Monday. Here’s my Tamiya “birdcage”, hope Revell’s builds up as nice as Tamiyas’.

Frugal rules my world-kit decals unless they’re unusable.

They should be fine, Revell’s decals are usually pretty good.
I’m lucky that I have the decals going spare from the last issue of the ye olde Airfix Corsair, both FAA options. Confusingly, Operation Goodwood for the first option, is not the operation over Normandy, but against the Tirpitz. For a while I thought they were flying over Normandy!

Wasn 't Goodwood a month after D Day? Normandy had invasion stripes also?

BTW how good is that Airfix F4U ? My last Airfix was an F-86 Sabre newer mold, decent kit. I actually built a LOT of Heller-Airfix older 1/72 F-86 kits, those were GEMS!

Well that’s what confused me. Operation Goodwood in Normandy is the one I knew, but in August the same operation name was used in an offensive against the Tirpitz. Something I didn’t know until I did a little research in preparation.
As for the Airfix kit, it’s a very old tooling. Simple details and covered with rivets. Despite putting FAA markings the box, it has the standard wingtips and not clipped. I can get some shots up tomorrow if you’re interested in seeing what’s in the box. Tamiya and Revell have definitely made it redundant these days.

No need to see it, I went to Scalemate, thanks for the offer. If that group build goes through I am building the Revell F4U-1B now and may buy a 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1D for the group build. The dark blue one in the Revell box its actually an FG-1D which is just an F4U-1D BUT built by Goodyear. OR do a British F4U built by Brewster which were NOT suppose to see action but ONE DID!

So Brewster built aircraft were not supposed to see action? Wonder what the circumstances behind that were?
Have to admit I’m not as up on all the various Corsair variants as I should be.

Brewster did NOT have a good name. They also had union problems and couldn’t deliver on time and their quality was sub-par.

Sad part was Pappy Boyington was a Marine Carrier pilot just before WWII and flew the Brewster Buffalo, he said “that thing could turn inside a telephone booth” and he said the engineers screwed it up after that by adding all that weight, probably armor and self sealing tanks. But then again Pappy was a bit unique! LOL

I started assembling the cockpit. The only thing I corrected was the seat, I rounded the seat back as to my reference pictures,now to paint it up.

I have some detail painting started. I taped the fuselage halves together to see the size, small for now but it will “grow” a bit when I add the wings and nose.

This gave me the idea to do another “small” Corsair so I ordered this. 1/72 Italeri F4U-7/AU1. I am not building anything big as I moved from FL to MA and don’t have the room I use to so want to do smaller scale subjects.

Having serious issues with the cockpit it’s way off center. I tried building a 1/72 Revell a few years ago and it got binned. Don’t remember why.I may set it aside and do Hasegawa 1/72 F4U-1D and use FAA decals on it if this kit continues with this issue. I have this kit on the way anyways.

That’s surprising as it’s fairly new. Do you have a shot showing the cockpit?
Might help when I come to do mine and I can think of how to fix it. Forewarned is forearmed.
The kit no longer exists at my bench or home.
