Back in the late 80’s it was all green or green-based camo but I’d think the sand is a benefit to those units at NTC.

Bundeswehr PzH 2000 use only German ammo

Back in the early to mid 1980’s most of the vehicles at USMC Camp Pebdelton where overall green with a white dot outline for the other colors. Basic idea was to paint in the appropriate colors for the theater of operation that you where going to deploy to.
