Ford GT40 Mk.II - Le Mans 1966 - Meng 1/24

Hi Joel,
no it doesn’t …

Rod,
I guess as long as the front “Bonnet” is closed, it really doesn’t matter as no one would ever see it.

joel

Maybe they had a flat tire on the Mulsanne straight and had to use the spare …

Richard,
That’s pretty funny, and certainly in modern times would have been a 1st. To bad the tires weren’t inflated to save weight, and I’m pretty positive that they didn’t have Jack nor Wrench :joy:

Rod,
Headers and exhaust pipes really look good. Please keep the updates coming.

joel

Excellent looking exhaust.

I painted the seats (very patiently … ), assembled the instrument panel and finished the cockpit …

Rod,
The dash looks outstanding. The gauges and toggle switches came out perfectly. But those seats. Wow!! Excellent job painting those metal round inserts. In the real car they actually look like metal washers as the center is hollow. But in 1/24 scale, they look just fine as solid buttons. When the times comes for my build, I’m doing them exactly the way you did.

Joel

Thanks Joel

For this kit I used Gravity Colors for the first time
This is the result after applying a coat of Gravity Colors Light Surface Primer

Rod,
I’m not a fan of Gravity, Zero, Scale Finishes, or MCW primers, as they’re way to thin to do what a primer should do, as the final coat when enlarged shows a slightly uneven tone.

But the Gravity Ford Hawaiian Blue came out looking terrific. It’s smooth and from what I can consistent in color and tone.

Well done Ron.

joel

Really coming along fine here. Nice smooth paintjob.

Man that DID come out smooth. Very good work so far Rod.

Decals applied and painted the two forward red areas

Rod,
Decals came out perfect, and the Red paint matches the decals just fine.

You’re getting mighty close to the finish line, and I personally can’t wait.

joel

Looking good Rod, lovely work!

Cheers, D

Sure looks fine Rod.

Do you think I should do some weathering?

Ron,
The overall look of your build is that of a museum quality presentation from how your pictures appear on my monitor. Other then the exhaust collector pipes, I really don’t see much of any weathering.

Weathering, just like building has basics that needs to be addressed, so that whatever level of weathering you apply adds to the realism effect you’re after.

A good place to start is with the tire treads and the alloy wheels as they’d be the 1st place on a race car to show any kind of road use.
