Fort Sill, Oklahoma Field Artillery museum

Now I remember. The last time I measured one was for Zimi. They like to show they actually had someone research it.

A person could spend a serious amount of time taking photos on the many modeling subjects there.

Inside the “training” museum is where a lot of good stuff is.

You have to make a reservation and see if they are busy.

I live in Oklahoma City but have only been to Ft. Sill one time. I really want to go back, I just need to carve out the time.

Our local IPMS and AMPS clubs held their meetings in the older 45th museum. IPMS was in the morning and AMPS was in the afternoon. I am a regular AMPS member and we hope to reconvene at the new location when it opens.

The combined Oklahoma City IPMS/AMPS annual model show will be held at the new museum as a “welcome back to the 45th”. The show is scheduled for October 3 at the new facility. I understand that not all the old outdoor displays are moving to the new location, which is not that far away from each each other. They apparently will be adding new outdoor displays as well.

Currently the grand opening of the new museum is scheduled for June 12.

I was really hoping that I could stroll into their outside display area and look at their M103. It was not to be. They have a serious curved fence at both locations.

Sorry about that. You missed a couple of good museums. Ft. Sill museum really impressed me when I went several years ago. Like I said, I really want to go back. There is a very impressive collection of artillery and anti-aircraft items in Ft. Sill.
I’m looking forward to the 45th reopening. At the old location, we often would end our AMPS meetings and wander out to look at the different vehicles, as often someone was working on one of them at that time.

I have another reason to come back to this area. We traveled around the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reserve today and really enjoyed the area.

Is that still there?
Man, I remember back during my FAOBC in 1983 heading out there for the burgers and mason jar drinks with a few stops for buffalo crossings.

Wonder if the M108 with the RPG impact near the driver’s side is still outside Snow Hall?

Looks like it is, but I haven’t been there for years. One hopes such is unchanged.

Nice photos. A lot of that stuff was around when I was stationed there in 1976, but they’ve added quite a few pieces to the museum since.

Alot seems to have from APG’s collection after the museum was closed down.
