I’m not totally certain but I do believe that a steam engine is
slightly over the load limit for that box-car …
The B&W version of the picture shows what happened. I had noticed that the boxcar chassis looked a bit weird ![]()

Iron horse? Looks more like a giant iron termite feasting on the wooden box car.
Titan missile bound for South Florida Museum :
I guess the one below (already posted a while ago) shows the same missile…

About that tugboat on a rail carriage …
In the late 19th century there was a smallish Swedish steamer, Svanen (The Swan) which was
in regular traffic on a lake and the river downstream of the lake. There was a small waterfall or rapids in the river which was no good at all for a steam boat. The problem was solved by bypassing the rapids by a short railroad, basically two boat launching ramps connected end-to-end.
The steamer Svanen had four wheels, two axles, equipped with rail wheels.
It approached the ramp on one side, aligned with the rails and chugged upp the ramp and then down into the river on the other side.
The steel wheels are barely visible, the front axle just in front of the bush and the rear axle in front of the four dudes standing beside the boat.
I think this is the location of that waterfall/rapids
The owners were later outcompeted by a newly opened regular railroad which service the same
destinations as the steamer. The boat was sold to Denmark where they had similar problems so
that the boat had to travel on rails.
It was finally destroyed when it blew up in the southern parts of Copenhagen harbour in 1942 where it was working as a tugboat, presumably hit a mine.
Henri, thank you for continuously posting.
So many fascinating loads of these rail cars.
The flat car above, with all the farm equipment, I really want to model that load!
