French AMX-10RCR (SEPAR) Markings

I’ve got an AMX 10 RCR on the to-do list and found several painted in the new Brown color I want to tackle. I also noted some have “names” painted on their sides… anyone know what they represent? Google translate isn’t much help. Thanks in advance…

The one in the top picture is named after Warrant Officer (adjudant) Pierre Arainty, a platoon leader during World War II. During the Eritrean campaign, he distinguished himself on January 2, 1941, at the Battle of Umbrega by leading his Spahis in a charge, routing the Italians.

The other one is named after Capitaine Paul Jourdier who won fame in the same battle, where he defeated a vastly superior enemy, led the last saber charge in the history of the French cavalry and brought Free French forces their first land victory despite heavy losses.

By the way the vehicles in your pictures are regular 10RCRs not SEPARs. The SEPAR add-on armor kit is only used in operations. To my knowledge no SEPAR has been painted Brun terre de France.

Thank you for the info - Google was not helpful on my searches. I find the French Army’s tradition of memorializing and naming their AFVs after famous battles, veterans and historical locations to be very honorable. I want to do the same for my French Army subjects - WW2 to modern, so when I come across something like this, I just have to inquire who, what, where and when. Thank you very much for the information.

Yes, I saw that after I posted the pics. I will be modelling a straight AMX-10 RCR for that purpose. Thanks…

For your information Blast models of France have a number of aftermarket items for the 10RCR.

For some reason that color reminds me of an old joke about why the British wore red coats into battle…
