French Infantry at Sedan

I used a black wash on the cobblestones and ammo crates and a brown wash on the sandbags. I’ll let it dry then do some dry brushing. I’ll probably paint the tufts of grass in between the cobblestones after that.Processing: IMG_2909.jpeg…

I dry brushed the cobblestones with artist oils as well as the ammo boxes and sandbags. Then I painted the grass tufts with various shades of green. In hindsight I should have taken the time to drill small holes and stick the grass in them to get a better result, also would have made painting a little easier. Next time I guess. Lastly, I’ll add some pigments to the scene as well as the figure.

Damn- just noticed the fingerprints on the sandbags! Oh well

You could always try and add a little more shadow where the fingerprint is- might hide it a bit more. Really isn’t very noticeable. I like the way you have done the base- just enough stuff on it to suggest the fortifications and show the figure in the right environment. Yet not so full of stuff it will overshadow or draw attention away from the figure.

Thank you Karl, I was thinking of putting a German helmet on the ground in the corner of the base but I’m not sure. I’ll see after I get the figure mounted

Does anyone know who makes French small arms ammo boxes in 1/35 scale? I thought about putting a few behind my figure. Can’t seem to find any. Thanks in advance

Sorry Richard I couldn’t find any scale model versions. I did find some 1:1 scale which may give you an option to alter an existing box or two yourself.

I’m sure they exist as scale models but maybe only in 3d printed versions.

Some boxes for your consideration;

Dynamo models 25mm gun has some boxes in the kit

81mm mortar ammo box

75mm artillery ammo box

Small munitions box (unsure of ammo)

7.5? mm ammo box

Sam thank you for taking the time to check it out for me. I was looking as well but didn’t find anything , although Blast Models has a set of ammo boxes for the modern ANF 1 machine gun but obviously not what I need. I do have some resin ammo crates that look like some of the examples you showed in your post. I might use one of those. Thanks again!
