So I used some black thread to simulate rope tie downs ion the back of my Stug , gave it a white glue wash treatment , painted it dark brown and tan highlights , looked good for a while then i noticed the fuzzys coming back with a vengeance…any solutions?
Beeswax,
Yes! I’m sure others will say don’t use black thread, but if you want to persevere with it then light a candle and experiment with feeding the thread across the flame at around 1 inch above. You’ll know it’s working when you see little sparkles given off – the hairs burning. Of course it’s easy to fly too close…anyhow, once you’ve succeeded then soak it in white glue.
I used kite string many years ago, I seem to recall it was fuzz-less and worked pretty well
Black silk suture thread works very well, too. No fuzzies!
I use model ship ropes. No fuzzies and laid like real rope. I bought a package of each color and size from a Canadian company Ropes of Scale.
Fire helps
If it does not need to look braided, I’ve heard that fishing line in various thicknesses can be used and quite cheap.
The difference between a monofilament, and multifilament, even in 1/72 scale, can be obvious. And fishing line (a monofilament) is usually made of some kind of synthetic such as nylon, or poly-whatevers, and don’t really act like miniature rope.
This is what I use for rope…
You can get different sizes and colours on Amazon. I use 0.3mm for tie-down rope and 0.45 for cables. The fixed flexible ‘needle’ is great for getting through small holes. Takes thinned paint well and is strong without fraying.

0.45 example painted metalish…
I’m more impressed with how you painted the spine on that figure.
Great tip! Always looking for decent rope and cable. Just ordered some. Thanks.
And Rob’s right, that figure’s back is outstanding in it’s own right.
