Gecko: 4CV Saigon taxi | Armorama™

Gecko Models are to release a further civilian model in their Vietnam War series. It is a 4CV taxi often seen in use in Saigon in the 1960s/70s.

A very welcome surprise.

Very cool. Now we just need a Citroen 2CV with sliding top.

Or, indeed the pick-up version as used by the Royal Marines, including in Malaya:

Something different for sure!

I guess I’m a sucker for odd models, loved the shots of 2CV being used by Royal Marines. Noticed the registration numbers on their “trucks” have “RN” as middle digits, is this a Royal Navy plate or just a coincidence? I don’t know much about UK vehicle registration numbers.

Both the 4CV and 2CV have been available from B&L Models as 3D printed kits for quite some time already, and relatively inexpensive (and good kits). I get the feeling that Gecko is taking cues from B&L (4CV, motorbikes), Hobby Link (Otter) and even Masterpiece Models (PACV) for their Vietnam subjects and either using their ideas and/or using their kits for reference.

Gecko Models are just so damn finicky. I don’t enjoy the builds.

Royal Marines, being part of the Royal Navy, did indeed, sport “RN” as part of their vehicle registrations; I’m not too sure when this was discontinued - I suspect the early 70s.

The French Groupe d’Hélicoptères de l’Aéronautique Navale. (GHAN) had their own experimental variant tested in Algeria (1960-61)

My God - truly these would look soooo different on the display tables - in 1/35 I hasten to add; I’m aware that some modellers have tackled this in 1/24.

Wow! Just look at what a bit of idle Googling brought up:

I mean, what the hell?

My word, just awesome but to all my friends out there thye kit from Gecko is a Renault. The 2CV is a Citroën. There is quite a difference as the 2CV was on the market before this Renault 4 and was designed to have cross country capabilities. So have fun with either of them

A mate had one of these in Germany, it was insane how easy it was to work on and sitting in the seats was like sitting in the back of a Hercules! I’d love a kit, RM pick up or civi version.

Very nice addition by Gecko, warmly welcome!

About a Citroën 2CV in 1/35 I just can say: patience

Gecko is one of my favorite producer due to their exotic kits.
Most of them found my interest.
Hope for more french cars or trucks.

A 2CV in 1/35? Is this a hint about AK Interactive? Please do a beetle from the 70’s as well if it is.
