I think the bed roll is the zeltbahn poncho and the piece to attach to it looks like a gas cape to me. Nice review of what looks like an excellent set - I shall be having one! Cheers. 
That pistol looks like a flare pistol not a revolver. I believe they were issued with the large holster that is included on the sprue. Regards, Bob.
