German Machine Gunners WWII

This is the new Tamiya set. Straps and gun slings from Champagne foil, although actually the running figure had well moulded on rifle sling. Paints Humbrol. The bit of wall comes with the kit. Addition to the prone gunner was the case for the sights (dark yellow) from the spares box. Not present in the kit, but mandatory for the MG34 on Lafette mounting.

Nicely done! Lovely paint job on them too! These newer Tamiya bodies really do build up nicely.

In the spares box I’ve got a couple of old 1:35 scale Tamiya German figures that I use as parts; the hands being quite solid are great as workmen’s gloves whilst the boots being big lumps are good for gumboots.

These new figures actually have accurate shapes!

Definitely the newer figures including their weapons and gear are much crisper than the old ones. Growing up building the old kits in my teen years in the mid 70’s I remember trying to open the area around the trigger and triggers guards and mucking them up lol. It’s nice coming back to the hobby and seeing so many improvements in the molds.

Yes, I think they are scanned from actual people or photographs. In fact I’m pretty sure I know which photo the crew of the MG34 on Lafette were scanned from…

It is interesting how the use of technology have improved molds and methods in production and the detail in the folds of clothing, improved textures, and facial expressions. Details are so much crisper and more delicate.
